“Where Fools Dare to Tread”: Beware Easy Money and The Fools Chasing It

A dead man’s money is just waiting to be had. A former porn star, her band of fools, and a nobody named Monk Buttman unwittingly finds themselves caught in a web of murder and revenge between two powerful unseen factions using them and the promise of easy money as bait.

After a good day ends in murder, personal services man, Monk Buttman, is tasked with finding Desiree Marshan, the former porn star, after she allegedly kills their boss. The question is why him? Why not the cops or a PI? He’s a nobody, the guy who is barely seen, much less acknowledged; hardly the type for this kind of work, but power broker Marsyas Durant gives him the job anyway. Stuck between the powerful forces of money, drugs, and revenge, Monk tries to survive both Desiree’s fools and those pulling the strings he can feel but can’t see. The job is complicated by the affections of two very different women, the troubled Agnes, looking for love, and the disaffected Judith, looking for anything but; not to mention the irritation of his erstwhile partner, Mr. Jones.

A beating forces Monk to question his own motives and to confront the past that led him to hide in LA. His affairs with Agnes and Judith make him wonder who really is the fool, him or Desiree. Mr. Jones just wants his money. Professional killers lurking just out of sight aren’t making him feel any better. With love and life on the line, Monk must use his wits and guile for all of them to survive.
