Driving Successful Lives Helps Flint Couple Move From Tent Living to Jobs and Transportation

Driving Successful Lives Inc., a Michigan-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit, has stepped in to transform the lives of a hardworking Flint couple who had been living in a tent with no transportation and no stable employment. Through the organization’s vehicle assistance and community support programs, the couple is now employed, mobile, and one step closer to securing affordable housing.

The charity provided the couple with a 2007 Ford Explorer, giving them something most of us take for granted — reliable transportation. With a vehicle in place, Driving Successful Lives staff immediately helped them obtain two paying jobs, allowing them to regain stability, income, and hope.

“It doesn’t take much sometimes to get people back on their feet,” said Mark Maupin, Executive Director of Driving Successful Lives. “This couple didn’t need a handout — they just needed a chance. A car, a job, and a little belief in them changed everything. I just wish we could do even more. They are a hardworking couple, and they deserve a real shot at rebuilding their lives.”

Today, the couple is working full-time, managing their own transportation, and actively searching for affordable housing so they can continue moving forward.
