Argilio Rodriguez Speaks at “Opening a Restaurant in New York” CLE Hosted By NYC Bar Association

Argilio Rodriguez, Managing Attorney at Rodriguez Law, P.C., which serves as General Counsel to individuals and businesses in a variety of industries, including restaurants, bars, nightclubs, supermarkets, and liquor stores throughout New York City and Westchester County, recently had the honor of speaking at a NYC Bar Association’s Continuing Legal Education event. The seminar, entitled “Opening a Restaurant in New York City: Legal Issue Bootcamp,” was presented on Friday, March 18^th from 9 A.M. – 1 P.M. and sponsored by the Restaurant and Hospitality Law Committee of which Mr. Rodriguez is a member.

Mr. Rodriguez provided an overview of the most critical labor & employment issues facing restaurants in New York City. The overview explored various wage and hour issues such as the minimum wage, tipped employees (the tip credit and tip pools), overtime, spread of hours, credits and deductions, and wage notices, compliance issues, and best practices. Additional topics addressed were undocumented workers (employment eligibility), U.S. and New York Department of Labor investigations, unionization, retaliation, discrimination, and sexual harassment. “Each year, restaurants are faced with new legal challenges resulting from labor and employment law which are constantly changing,” said Mr. Rodriguez. “This seminar provided attorneys who regularly work with restaurants as clients with practical, real-world solutions to the various legal challenges they are likely to encounter in 2016. It was an honor and privilege to teach the class.” The program, held at the NYC Bar Association, was eligible for four continuing legal education credits.
