Hooked on clay pigeon shooting after a work team building day out, a young shooter has his sights set on the 2012 Olympic Games in London.

Hailing from Yorkshire, Jordan Hunt only took up clay pigeon shooting in 2008 and is now hoping to take part in the 2012 Olympic Games in London.
Jordan, who’ll be just 21 at the time of the games, has been described as a rising star in the sport of clay pigeon shooting in the UK. What is even more impressive about his level of shooting is that he only took up the sport in 2008.
Invited to a clay pigeon shoot with work colleagues in Manchester, the youngster admits he fell in love with the sport the very first time he tried it. He comments : “It was awesome and I was hooked. I decided to research what was required to take up clay pigeon shooting as a sport and eventually got my licence.
“I absolutely love the sport and am always getting asked questions from people. When you see the target break and you hear the sound, it’s a real sense of achievement.”
Jordan is not the only person to take up the sport after an initial introductory experience in clay pigeon shooting. Rob Holmes, e-commerce and marketing manager at online activity gift voucher company Into the Blue said: “We offer clay pigeon shooting experiences at centres all over the UK and we’ve noticed from feedback our customers have given us that many actually take up the sport after one of our ‘have a go’ sessions. Interestingly, there are as many women tempted to take up clay pigeon shooting as a sport as there are men.”
Clay pigeon shooting will be hosted in Woolwich at the Royal Artillery Barracks during the London 2012 Olympics, with 15 different shooting medal events involving 390 athletes from over 100 different countries.
During the two weeks of events, over 275,000 clays will be shot at. As well as clay pigeon shooting with shotguns, there will also be pistol and rifle events where shots are aimed at non-moving targets.
It is estimated that there are 350,000 people regularly taking part in clay pigeon shooting events throughout the country, so it’s little wonder Great Britain has an impressive medal record at Olympic Games, with Britons raking in 43 since 1896 when the sport was introduced.
