Toronto, Canada (PRUnderground) September 27th, 2018
Universe Pictures Group today released unseen footage from the documentary short film Excelsis Movie -Vs- The Drama Sport Movie Genre. The footage highlights the current status of women in film by featuring interviews from actresses Karlee Rose, Avaah Blackwell and Kathryn Aboya.
To continue, women in film are vastly considered underrepresented. In fact, according to the Center for the Study of Women in Television and Film of the top 100 films of 2017 only 33 films depicted a female lead/co lead. Moreover, of the same top 100 films of 2017 only 8% represented a female director,10% represented female writers, 2% represented female cinematographers, 24% represented female producers and 14% represented female editors.
Additionally, the interviews also highlight the upcoming feature film “Excelsis” a female Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) based film that has been described as Rocky “1976” meets Fight Club “1999” and is currently on pace to become the first female Mixed Martial Arts based movie in the Drama Sport movie genre. “these are the stories we are starting to tell now and people are starting to see the value and the merit in having a female lead” said Kathryn Aboya Co-Producer of “Excelsis”.
In conclusion, “while women in film may still be considered as underrepresented non-conventional films like “Excelsis” help to collapse stagnant mindsets and slowly create change one film at a time” said Jaze Bordeaux Executive Producer.
