Captain Bernd Kai von Hoesslin suffered a great loss when eight of his colleagues and 149 passengers were instantly killed in a Nairobi-bound flight from Addis Ababa that crashed six minutes after takeoff. The Canadian born Expat Pilot with Ethiopian Airlines has published his story in Wasted Warnings, a book about the crash and his efforts to prevent the tragedy he had earlier predicted to his fellow pilots and managers. It is Captain Kai’s mission to bring purpose to the senseless loss of 157 lives aboard the 737 Max Crash.
Bernd Kai von Hoesslin is a retired Boeing B737 instructor and captain. With over 2,500 hrs instructing in the aircraft or simulator and well over 6,000 in-command hours on the B737 variants. Wasted Warnings is his story on the experiences within the airline where the dramatic impact of the crash on ET302 departing from Bole International Airport on March 10, 2019, a Boeing B737 MAX never made it to the planned destination Nairobi and changed his life and all those who perished forever.
“As a commercial pilot with almost forty years of experience and a captain with Ethiopian Airlines for nearly two years, I believe I know exactly what happened in the crash of flight 302. I want those responsible to be held accountable,” said Captain Kai. When asked why he decided to write this book he responds “No one would listen to my warnings prior to the crash. I now have one hundred and fifty-seven very good reasons to tell this story. I still have hope that something will change, that someone will listen and that the crew and passengers killed on Flight 302 will not have lost their lives in vain.”
Captain Kai’s book launches on March 10th, 2020, the one-year anniversary of the crash. After tirelessly researching the incident, Captain Kai decided it was time to put his findings into a book. He wants the world to learn from this accident and prevent this type of crash in the future. Wasted Warnings can be found at Barnes & Noble, Amazon and Rakuten Kobo.
