United Nations Director 1 Irena Zubcevic will be featured in IAOTP’s Top 50 Fearless Leaders Publication

Irena Zubcevic, Director 1 of Intergovernmental Policy and Review Branch at the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs was recently chosen to be featured in the Top 50 Fearless Leaders Publication by the International Association of Top Professionals (IAOTP).

While being selected to be published in IAOTP’s Top 50 Fearless Leaders Publication, is an honor in itself, only 50 of the world’s most brilliant, courageous, inspirational professionals are selected for this distinction.

These special honorees are hand selected to share their stories of perseverance, resilience, passion and strength. They have made outstanding contributions to society; they have impacted their industries and are respected in their trades. A chapter will be dedicated to each honoree and the book is anticipated to be released in the 4th quarter of 2021.

Ms. Zubcevic has exemplary brilliance in her field and has dedicated more than thirty years of her career to sustainable development and international relations. She was recognized as Top Chief of the Year in Sustainable Development for 2020 and she will receive her recognition as an Empowered Woman of the Year for 2021 at IAOTP’s Annual Awards Gala being held at the Plaza Hotel in New York City this December.

Irena Zubcevic is a talented visionary leader who has demonstrated success not just through diplomacy international relations and sustainable development, but she also successfully engages and implements her projects and programs, while assessing and following through in each endeavor she is challenged with.

Her most current area of focus is on the United Nations high-level political forum on sustainable development. Ms. Zubcevic is supporting countries as well as stakeholders ranging from civil society, scientific community, academia and private sector in preparation of voluntary national reviews on implementation of sustainable global goals. She has put strategies into play for a wide range of sustainable development issues such as climate, oceans, cities, sustainable consumption and production and transport.

Ms. Zubcevic’s key areas of expertise include Intergovernmental Processes, Sustainable Development, Rule of Law, Governance, Peacebuilding, Policy and Strategy Development at National Regional, and International Levels, Advocacy and Outreach,  working alongside many high-level functionaries which include, Heads of States and Governments, Ministers, CEOs in private sector, also many media platforms, foundations, academia and civil society in general. Along with these efforts, she has contributed to various reports and authored publications.

Ms. Zubcevic earned a Bachelor of Science in Linguistics and a Master of Science in Humanities from the University of Zagreb. She rounded her studies at Harvard University with a Certificate for Senior Managers in Government. Ms. Zubcevic is fluent in English, French, Spanish and Italian, along with several other languages.

Her impressive repertoire of prior roles include experience as the  Director 1of the Ocean and Climate Branch of the Division for Sustainable Development in the UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs and as a Senior Sustainable Development Officer. She also held positions such as:  Adviser to the Ministry of Information of the Republic of Croatia, Head of the English News Service of the Croatian News Agency-HINA and the Minister Plenipotentiary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Croatia.

Throughout her remarkable career, Ms. Zubcevic has received many awards and accolades and has been recognized in numerous publications and magazines worldwide for her outstanding leadership roles and commitment to her industry. She graced the front cover of T.I.P. (Top Industry Professional) Magazine and was broadcasted on the famous Reuters Building in Times Square, New York City by the International Association of Top Professionals (IAOTP). She is being considered for an exclusive interview on TIP Radio this fall.

Aside from her successful career, Ms. Zubcevic is an active Board Member for the Women’s Soroptimist International of New York City. She has been recognized by various National and Local Charities and Schools for her excellence. She upholds memberships with the International Society of Sustainability Professionals, the National Association of Professional Women, Who’s Who of Professional Women, Marquis Who’s Who and Pride of CCS.

Looking back, Ms. Zubcevic attributes her success to her persistence, her ability to understand different cultures and mentors with whom she has been honored to collaborate with. She has a true passion for her service and high integrity in all her professional and personal endeavors. When not working, she enjoys traveling and spending time with her family.  For the future, she hopes to continue to make a difference in people’s lives by using her knowledge and experience in the above areas. .
