U.S. News & World Report has released their annual list of Best Hospitals for Maternity Care and 13 Intermountain Healthcare hospitals in Utah have made the list, an important achievement as fewer than 300 hospitals around the country scored high enough to be recognized.
“Having so many of our hospitals on this list demonstrates the important work that we’re doing across our health system to provide the highest-quality maternity care for mothers in our communities, regardless of where they live,” said Sean Esplin, MD, senior medical director for women’s health at Intermountain Healthcare and Intermountain Medical Group.
Intermountain hospitals on this year’s list includes: Alta View Hospital, Sandy; American Fork Hospital; Cedar City Hospital; Intermountain Medical Center, Murray; Layton Hospital; LDS Hospital, Salt Lake City; Logan Regional Hospital; McKay-Dee Hospital, Ogden; Orem Community Hospital; Park City Hospital; Riverton Hospital; St. George Regional Hospital; and Utah Valley Hospital, Provo.
The magazine analyzes labor and delivery services data to make their determinations. This year they also analyzed four new factors including episiotomy rates, vaginal birth after cesarean rates, and whether each hospital met new federal criteria for “birthing-friendly” practices. U.S. News & World Report also recognized and rewarded hospitals for tracking and reporting their outcomes for patients of different races and ethnicities.
“Our Intermountain caregivers strive to help all expectant mothers by providing a personalized patient experience during all aspects of maternity care including: labor, delivery, recovery and postpartum care, which help lead to better outcomes for all moms and babies,” said Dr. Esplin.
“When expectant parents are considering their options for welcoming a baby into the world, the Best Hospitals for Maternity Care is designed to help them identify hospitals that excel in delivering babies for uncomplicated pregnancies,” said Min Hee Deo, senior health data scientist at U.S. News.
