Traverse Bay Farms Ships Fresh Cherries

It’s cherry season in Northern Michigan. We are in the midst of cherry season in the Traverse Bay Farms region of Michigan. This means fresh cherries may still be available for shipping nationwide.

Did you know, the Northwestern lower peninsula of Michigan grow over 65% of all of the Montmorency tart cherries in the United States? These USA-grown cherries are made into cherry juice concentrate, concentrated cherry juice, tart cherry powder, cherry capsules and more.  This great news for those looking to enjoy fresh, great-tasting American grown fruit.

According to Andy LaPointe, Director of Marketing with Traverse Bay Farms, “Our region of Michigan grows some of the best fruit in the world including apples, berries and cherries. Year-round we ship our cherry juice concentrate, dried cherries, nationally award-winning cherry salsa and cherry capsules.”

Mr. LaPointe continued, “During the short summer harvest, we also ship, when we have a large enough crop the fresh tart cherry. This means, customers all over the United States can enjoy not our cherry juice concentrate, but fresh cherries. However, this year is a challenge due the shortage in the cherry yield for this year. So customers may or may not be able to enjoy fresh cherries shipped to them. But we are still figuring this out.”

Shipping Fresh Sweet Cherries: Shipping fresh sweet cherries is a very short window. Since these little purplish orbs have a very short shelf life, timing in critical. Thus, to ensure the cherries are received in the best possible manner, the shipping of fresh cherries is done at the beginning of the week, on Monday only, to ensure the fresh cherry shipment arrives before the weekend.

Shipping Fresh Tart Cherries: The fresh tart cherry shipping is also available. However, the shelf-live is shorter than the sweet cherries. It is best simply place them into your freezer once received.

How Traverse Bay Farms Ships Fresh Cherries: All fresh cherries shipments are ship 2nd Day Air. We pack the fresh cherries into shippable Styrofoam cooler packed with dry ice. Individuals must be careful when handling the dry ice when unpacking the free cherry shipment.
