It’s Official…the Traverse Bay Farms annual parade float has won the top prize in the “Most Colorful” category. Over 60 entries were considered for this top prize, but the Traverse Bay Farms Rolling Drum Solo float took this prestigious award in 2021.

According to Andy LaPointe, owner of Traverse Bay Farms, “Participating in the Elk Rapids Harbors Days annual parade is a lot of fun for our employees and those watching the parade. I would guess this annual parade has over 2,500 people sitting along the parade route enjoying all of the floats. In fact, our Elk Rapids retail store is along the parade route and in the heart of downtown Elk Rapids. This allows parade watchers to grab some of our dried cherries, cherry juice concentrate, nationally-award winning fruit salsa and tart cherry capsules while watching the parade.”

Mr. LaPointe continued, “Our parade float is unique. You see, I set up my double-bass drum set on a landscape trailer and a few of my employees pull the float along the parade route. I get to do a 30+ minute drum solo. It’s a lot of fun. You see, I started playing drums when I was 13 years old. Over the years, I have played in several bands and in countless bars, summer events, backyard parties and more. It’s a lot of fun. However, nothing really is as fun as playing my drums in the parade. You see, I get to perform in front of thousands of people while in a parade. When I played in a bar band, we would have maybe a few hundred. Also, it is really fun for the kids to see, too.”

In 2021, Traverse Bay Farms won the “Most Colorful” parade entry for the color of the double-bass drum set.
