Trade/Craft announces 3-Day Intensive Classes To Lead Off First Quarter 2020

Industry: Entertainment & Games

New entertainment trade school teaches filmmaking crafts to help professionals advance in their careers.

Glendale, California (PRUnderground) January 15th, 2020

Entertainment trade school Trade/Craft announced today their 2020 class slate, starting with two 3-Day classes offered in late January. The “Intensive” courses will cover 24 hours of study in three 8-hour days at the school’s Glendale office, January 24th through 26th. The classes cover the same material as the 8-week courses, but are offered for those who might attend from out of town, or cannot commit to a once a week course format.

Independent Producer David Higgins of Launchpad Productions will teach a focused course for would-be and starting producers covering all aspects of producing, giving students who complete the course tools to start putting together their own projects. “Producing is a catch-all term for a huge variety of skills and knowledge,” said Higgins, who’s producing credits include Hard Candy and Big Momma’s House. “A successful producer’s knowledge should encompass a strong understanding of the marketplace – from studio wide-release feature films to indie films released only on streaming services; from network series to cable and streaming offerings to short-form storytelling found on both pay and free sites.”

A second 3-Day Intensive features Visual Effects veteran Rodney Montague (Hellboy, The King’s Man) focusing on the role of the Visual Effects Producer. Montague, who is also Vice-President of Production at Academy Award-winning Rhythm & Hues Studios, intends to provide students practical tools to navigate the complex and challenging world of visual effects. “I hope that visual effects artists and coordinators can use this class not only to advance their careers, but also to gain a better understanding of the industry we all work in,” said Montague. “Knowledge is definitely power, and all visual effects professionals would benefit from a course like this.”

Trade/Craft begins their inaugural 2020 quarter the week of February 10th with an initial slate of classes including Assistant Editing, Post-Production Producing, Visual Effects Producing and Independent Producing. Future classes include Color & Colorists in Modern Filmmaking, Onset Visual Effects Supervision, Sound Editing and The Art of Foley.

Founded by industry veterans Paul Leonard (Battlestar Galactica, The Son) and John FK Parenteau (Star Trek, Hunger Games), along with administrator Maggie Jones, Trade/Craft was created as an answer to the challenge of finding training in specific fields throughout entertainment. With over 30 years of experience in the industry, both Leonard and Parenteau have managed major productions and companies for both feature film and episodic content. Over the years, both faced the difficulty of finding trained technicians, and discovered how many positions could only be learned “on the job”, a fact that led to a lack of available talent or inconsistent training. Trade/Craft was conceived as a way to standardize training in fields that otherwise had no traditional training paths. About Trade/Craft

Many jobs in the entertainment industry aren’t taught. Instead, you have to learn them on the job, which leads to a high level of inconsistency and misinformation.

Even worse, for certain jobs, if you want to move up in the industry, take on a better position, challenge yourself, you often have to spend years learning from someone else to earn the privilege to try for something more.

We want to change that.

Trade/Craft offers select courses, taught by industry leaders, in an intensive 6 or 8 week program. When you finish you have a major head start, with the tools to impress and advance in your career faster than ever before.
