Back in 1969, Utah native Don Tingey moved to Las Vegas with a law degree from George Washington University and a desire to help people struggling with injuries caused by the negligence of others. Fifty years later, the firm he started — Tingey Injury Law Firm — has helped tens of thousands of Nevadans get appropriate medical care and financial compensation for their losses.
Tingey Injury Law Firm is one of the oldest and most well-respected personal injury firms in the Las Vegas area. Its attorneys specialize in traumatic brain injury, vehicle accidents (cars, semi-trucks, motorcycles), pedestrian accidents, workplace injuries, accident injuries (slips and falls, etc.), nursing home negligence, wrongful death, and more. Through their extensive knowledge of the legal system and their many years of experience in standing up to Big Insurance, they help clients recover property damage, lost wages, medical expenses, and compensation for pain and suffering.
Don Tingey hasn’t always lived in Las Vegas. He was raised on a farm in Centerville, Utah, earned his Bachelor’s degree from the University of Utah, and attended law school at George Washington University. Five of his 12 children were born while he was earning his law degree. He supported them by taking on a side job at an insurance company in the Washington D.C. area. It was there that Tingey found his passion for his specialty area as he developed heart for accident victims and respect for the lawyers who represented them.
“Working on that side of things and making friends with the plaintiffs’ attorneys was something that steered me towards personal injury,” said Tingey.
After earning his Juris Doctorate, Tingey decided to move west to be closer to home. Some of the friends he met in Washington D.C., including Harry Reid (now Sen. Reid), were living in Las Vegas. Tingey decided to join them and begin his legal career there. A picture of Tingey, Reid, and other attorneys in the 1970 Clark County Bar Association still hangs on Tingey’s office wall.
Tingey found a need for honest, dedicated accident injury attorneys in the area and began building his practice with a staff of one. Today, his staff has expanded to 38, including six attorneys. Two of these attorneys, Bruce and Dean, are Tingey’s sons.
In 2006, Tingey received the Nevada Trial Lawyer Association’s Badger Award for going “above and beyond the call of duty.” He was also honored with the 2017 Nevada Justice Association Lifetime Achievement Award.
Tingey said that he is most proud of the work he has done to connect injured Nevadans with the medical help and compensation they deserve so that they can rebuild their lives.
“I think we’ve helped everybody that we have represented over the last 50 years in a very tangible way,” said Tingey. “It’s been honest work — hard work — working for our clients.”
Tingey said that his firm has also been able to connect injury sufferers with top-quality medical care in the area.
“We’ve referred thousands of clients to doctors we have relationships with all over the valley so I would also say we’ve had a very real impact on the local medical profession,” said Tingey.
Tingey still comes into the office daily and plans to continue serving the firm for as long as he can. His firm prides itself on serving each customer with expertise, strength, and integrity. To learn more about the firm and its 50-year track record in Las Vegas, visit www.TingeyLawFirm.com.
