St. Dominic Village’s Most Exciting Fundraiser of the Year!

Houston, TX (PRUnderground) March 5th, 2025

St. Dominic Village, a nonprofit Senior Care Community, will host its 21th Annual Bishop Rizzotto Golf Classic on March 17, 2025, to raise money for the Compassionate Care Fund. The funds raised at the tournament will help to bridge the $1.3 million gap between Medicaid reimbursements and the actual cost of care for residents. The event will be held at Wildcat Golf Club located at 12000 Almeda Road, Houston, TX 77045 and take place across their two beautiful courses.

Upon arrival, golfers will receive goody bags, a box lunch from Eurasia Fusion Sushi Restaurant, and a chance to purchase tickets for exclusive raffle items. The day will conclude with an awards ceremony recognizing both the best and worst players, followed by a dinner provided by Ragin’ Cajun.

Adding to the excitement, longtime Houston sports journalist Matt Musil will participate in the tournament and host the awards dinner. His team will include former NFL running back Greg Hill, former Houston Astros pitcher Greg Swindell, and former Houston Oilers wide receiver Harold Bailey. Former Houston Astros President Reid Ryan, now the owner and CEO of Ryan Sanders Baseball, will also be in attendance, along with Houston City Councilmember Carolyn Evans-Shabazz.

This year’s tournament is chaired by Louis Pelz and Paul Layne, both successful Houston businessmen and dedicated St. Dominic Village board members. Lou Pelz, of Core Capital Management and Research Inc., and Paul Layne of Layne Property Partners, LLC have been strong advocates and long-term supporters of St. Dominic Village and its mission.  Both having led this event for many years, their contributions have been instrumental in its continued success.

For nearly 50 years, St. Dominic Village has been a trusted senior care community within the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston, serving more than 30,000 residents throughout its history. Welcoming both Catholics and non-Catholics alike, it provides a safe, compassionate, and faith-centered home for all who seek its care. With three levels of service—Independent Living, Assisted Living, and Rehabilitation and Nursing Care—St. Dominic Village ensures that residents receive the physical, emotional, and spiritual support they need. As the only Catholic senior care community in the area, it remains committed to providing exceptional, mission-driven care, regardless of financial circumstances. Families place their trust in St. Dominic Village for its unwavering dedication to comfort, dignity, and well-being, with many residents and their loved ones expressing deep gratitude for the attentive staff and nurturing environment.

“It is only with the support of our friends, donors, vendors and volunteers that we are able to carry out our mission and serve the elderly of Houston,” quote from the late Bishop Rizzotto.

St. Dominic Village is one of the leading providers of senior care in the Houston area, and a member of the Texas Medical Center. They provide a safe, nurturing, and vibrant environment where residents not only feel secure but also can thrive, aging with grace, dignity, and a sense of fulfillment. Many of the residents have simply outlived their means and find themselves without financial resources when their health and security concerns become most critical.

“Year after year, the tournament has provided great golf, great fun, and a crucial source of funding for those in our community. Your support will help ensure that all of these elderly residents continue to enjoy a secure, loving home and the very highest standard of care,” extended quote expressed the late Bishop Rizzotto.

All proceeds from this event will directly benefit the residents of St. Dominic Village and help improve the quality of life for those who call St. Dominic Village home. Aside from playing in, or sponsoring, the event any donation provided will go a long way in helping them carry out their mission of “Caring for Our Elders with the Compassion of Christ.”
