Texas’ Rocks Digital Marketing Conference Invites Marketers to Celebrate Local Search Day on July 1

Yesterday, Rocks Digital co-founder, Lissa Duty, announced the first-ever Local Search Day celebration, via Facebook Live, Rocks Digital’s blog and social media channels!

Rocks Digital annually celebrates Social Media Day with a two-day, digital marketing conference. This year, the team upped the ante and added a third day, July 1, dedicated entirely to local search.

“Local search and SEO have revolutionized the way people interact with the Internet, each other, and importantly, local businesses,” Bernadette Coleman, co-founder of Rocks Digital, said. “It only makes sense for us to dedicate a full day to learning more about these powerful methods and strategies.”

Rocks Digital made the decision to establish Local Search Day following Mashable’s pattern. In 2010, Mashable decided an official holiday should be set aside to celebrate the impact of social media, and made it happen in a big way. Rocks Digital views local search as a game changer for businesses, and worthy of celebration, too.

As such, Rocks Digital reached out to Addison Mayor, Todd Meier, and was excited when he caught the vision and officially proclaimed July 1, as Local Search Day.

A section of the proclamation reads,

“Local Search enables consumers to easily find the products and services they are seeking within specific geographic areas, often times through directory websites, mapping applications and search engines. Just like many global cities, these resources are widely used and valued through the Town of Addison; and surrounding municipalities;”

Local search brings all of this together to have a tangible effect on a city’s economy, its business community and that can, in turn, draw new businesses and individuals to a city.

Establishing Local Search Day is a big initiative, so Rocks Digital invited two major players in digital marketing, advertising and communication, the Local Search Association (LSA) and BIA/Kelsey, to help spread the word.

LSA has an active role in this year’s conference, sending their Vice President of Strategy & Insights, Greg Sterling, to deliver the morning keynote, July 1. This is in addition to their hosting an exclusive, invitation-only Local Search Think Tank the night before.

“With well over 90 percent of retail and services spending offline, marketers are finally recognizing that local search and location-based marketing are critical,” Sterling said. “I’m excited to be part of Rocks Digital’s Local Search Day this year, and look forward to a dynamic digital marketing event.”

BIA/Kelsey is also heavily involved on the Local Search Day team, and they’re hosting the Women Leading in Local After-Event.

“BIA/Kelsey is very pleased to support Local Search Day,” Celine Matthiessen, Vice President Analytics and Insights, said. “Our research continues to reveal that local shoppers are using all forms of mobile to search for items, so it’s imperative that small businesses understand how to best present themselves to be located. This event will provide meaningful data and information on how to create successful local search strategies.”

The team at Rocks Digital hopes to get more local and national organizations on board to celebrate Local Search Day, so that soon, it is celebrated as far and wide as Social Media Day.
