Tarra Lazos Lifestyles receives “MonOrchid’s Working for the Good” Work Space Grant

The “Working for the Good” grant is awarded to someone doing extraordinary work in their community and includes a free work space at monOrchid for 1 year. monOrchid is an arts and collaboration workspace in downtown Phoenix. The grant includes a desk/work space in the monOrchid loft, access to the building’s shared kitchen, conference room, copy machine and to be a part of special monOrchid events and opportunities. The estimated value of this grant is $5,000.

The winner of the “Working for the Good” grant is Jeffrey Ferns. “I am a native Arizonan and the Sonoran Desert is my family’s ancestral lands. After living in San Francisco for 17 years I have returned to the beauty of the desert and began working to create positive change in many communities through my work as an artist, producer and planner. I have been fortunate to live an extraordinary life and have extraordinary experiences through my work in the arts and business sectors. I now am collaboratively working with art, business, academic and cultural colleagues throughout Arizona and California creating programs that engage many communities including the arts, the humanities, youth, and the general public. monOrchid’s ‘Working for the Good’ grant, provides a necessary key for these collaborations, “SPACE”, a place of intersection for these projects and community members to engage in the incubation, planning and production of programs.

This opportunity provided by monOrchid allows for the continued success of Tarra Lazos’ collaborations and brings new, fresh perspectives into focus. I am excited to become part of a thriving, revitalized downtown Phoenix community of engaged artists, business owners and engaged community members. It is through this grant we are able to build on our momentum, focus in on its sustainability and drive new positive growth, collaborations and endeavors forward,” Jeffery Ferns.

Organizations Jeffrey Lazos- Ferns is currently working with include, Gregangelo & Velocity Arts & Entertainment of San Francisco & Arizona, Circus School of Arizona, Encoded Textiles Collaborative of Arizona and California, Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art, Children’s Museum of Phoenix, Arizona State University/ Project Humanities. These projects include programs of fundraising, special events, museum exhibitions, documentary films, public art & performance programs, k-12 curriculums, Indigenous language and culture preservation and specialized internships for ASU students.Tarra Lazos Lifestyle Company is a culinary and lifestyles venture in Arizona that fuses the arts, community programs, healthy eats, environmental sustainability, and social engagement in its vision, menus and programs.

About monOrchid

Located in the heart of the arts district in downtown Phoenix, the monOrchid building offers space for a variety of events: weddings, photo/video production, art exhibits and corporate events and seminars.
The monOrchid is a 14,000 square foot space comprised of open exhibition space, office pods, and two world-class photo cycloramas. The varied connected spaces house multiple creative businesses and offer unique settings for cultural events within the masonry walls and soaring natural wood bow trusses. Originally a warehouse constructed in 1937 by Del Webb, the building is an excellent example of adaptive-reuse in the City’s core. Through ten years of renovation and invention, the building has morphed into a place for collaboration, creativity and celebration.

About Wayne Rainey (owner/creator):

Robert Wayne Rainey, born March 16, 1966, is a fine-art and commercial photographer, and artistic community activist based in Phoenix, Arizona. Rainey is active in his hometown cultural district, where he has implemented numerous projects to revitalize the area, including both live / work facilities for artists with Holga’s, an RO3 Development, and a multidisciplinary creative consortium, realized in the monOrchid building.
