Stuart Burchill’s Thermal Insulation Coating Improves Industrial Workplace Safety
Industry: Manufacturing
In only two hours, equipment that was once 352 degrees Fahrenheit is now safe to touch with Stuart Burchill’s groundbreaking technology.

Factories around the world struggle to protect their employees from hot equipment and machinery. It can be extremely difficult, for example, to tell which pipes are scalding hot and which are normal and safe to touch.
Both the OSHA and ISO 45001 Occupational Health and Safety standards provide requirements for personnel safety in the workplace. Stuart Burchill’s thermal insulation coating helps clients internationally meet those standards by covering potentially dangerous surfaces.
Equipment that can be too hot to touch includes:
-
Steam pipes
-
Steam valves
-
Boilers
-
Ovens
-
Cookers
-
Processing Tank
-
Curing molds
-
Other heat process equipment
Generally, a “safe touch” surface temperature is recognized as 140F (60C) or below. This guideline is recommended by The Standard Guide for Heated System Surface Conditions that Produce Contact Burn Injuries (ASTM C1055). On average, a person can touch a surface which measures 140F for about five seconds without sustaining irreversible damage from burns.
Forming a reliable barrier around hot surfaces has been challenging with older forms of insulation. Equipment made with fiberglass or mineral wood is exceptionally difficult to wrap around pipe elbows, values, boilers, or ovens. Older insulation technologies are also more vulnerable to moisture and dust infiltration, ultimately reducing their insulating ability.
The Value of a Durable, Long-Lasting Spray-On Insulation for Personnel Safety
Stuart Burchill’s thermal insulation paint is revolutionary in both quality and effectiveness. It’s resistant to moisture and dust and prevents corrosion of the underlying substrate. Stuart Burchill’s coating is also resistant to chemical splashes, meaning it holds up in extreme factory environments.
Spray-on insulation technology instantly conforms to any surface, no matter its size, shape, or location. The coating stays in place and maintains a high level of performance for its long lifespan of a decade or more. Stuart Burchill’s thermal insulation coating has the ability to bring a surface as hot as 400F down to 140F in just a matter of hours and can be applied while the surface is still hot.
See the Results for Yourself!
It’s one thing to read about an industry changing product, and another to see EPX-H2O demonstrated in person! Check out this video of Stuart Burchill demonstrating temperature reduction due to the application of spray on insulation. The uncoated steam pipe was 352F, reduced to safe touch in the course of just two hours.
