Solar PV systems are a modern energy concept being used or thought about by millions all over the world, with the idea of jumping onto the eco bandwagon whilst earning anything up to a £25,00 tax free profit often proving too good to resist. Many however seem to be deterred because of the price, with basic prices between £5,000 and £6,000; it’s a lot of money to pay upfront. However recent development in the production of solar-cells could spell prices of a solar PV to become lower in the near future.
The plans are to develop a polymer solar cell, which would be made up of ‘small molecules’. Although this method is currently less efficient than the conventional silicon solar cell, the thin density of the molecules can be manipulated into inks and then printed onto large areas. This would not only make them considerably cheaper, but also relatively flexible. The advancement is being led by Nobel prize winner Alan Heeger, who is hoping to produce a solar cell made from this method that will convert 9% of light energy that strikes it into raw electricity. This would put the revolutionary new cell on par with some the best polymer cells currently available.
Although this revolutionary process is still in the early stages of development, scientists believe it could become groundbreaking in the method of creating solar energy affordable for everybody.
About Solar Advanced Sytems:
At Solar Advanced Systems we provide cost effective solar PV systems that maximise this powerful free source of energy, reducing your costs and helping the planet at the same time. Solar PV is a renewable energy system which uses solar PV panels to convert sunlight into electricity. The PV cells consist of thin layers of a semi-conducting material, usually silicon, which generates an electric charge when exposed to daylight (rather than heat). The greater the intensity of light, the greater the flow of electricity.
