Small, but systemically important: With laboratory materials, Malta-based life science company Yanimed emerges as a star in the wake of Corona

– Increase of market share in the US

– New brand identity for hidden champion Yanimed

– Sustainability in the laboratory sector through resource-saving materials and production

Maltese laboratory products manufacturer Yanimed is one of the classic hidden champions whose products are being used in laboratories, hospitals and research facilities worldwide in the current Corona pandemic. Since March 2020, employees have been working in shifts to supply scientists and doctors with gloves and other vaccine research and laboratory testing products. The company is now venturing forward with a new brand identity, representing a strengthened self-image for an entire industry. “We may only be a medium-sized company, but we enable scientists around the world to work on groundbreaking developments and research projects. This fact is significant for us as a company. And we want to convey this self-confidence to the outside world with our new brand identity.”

And yet these companies get much less attention than the big players. Therefore, it’s time that the smaller companies, which are exceptionally resilient in times like these and thus strengthen the economy, also get a voice, especially when they are making such a systemically important contribution to combating the Corona crisis, as Yanimed is doing.

“Companies like Yanimed have not been as visible to the public. Neither have the people in the labs who work and research with our products. That’s changing completely right now because public perception is shifting very strongly to the professions and companies that work more in the background. The new attention is also making itself felt economical. “In the wake of the Corona crisis, we have already seen significant double-digit growth,” says Frank Zielkowski, founder of Yanimed.

Last but not least, the new brand identity reflects Yanimed’s growing self-confidence. It is more colourful, louder – and more robust. Frank Zielkowski: “It’s time to step forward from the background visually as well.” “The crisis has clearly shown how important resilient structures are. Particularly in the coming months, politicians and society must not forget that SMEs, in particular, are systemically relevant.”

New Markets

As a company in one of the smallest countries in Europe, Yanimed looks for the way into new markets. Through efficient structures and high-quality standards, Yanimed has received certifications from some of the world’s best test agencies in a short time. Thus, the company is fit to take another step. North America is one of the countries most affected by the Corona crisis. To guarantee the sales of nitrile gloves, in particular, the company is in the process of obtaining approval for its products. Even if no special permissions are necessary due to the current exceptions, the process of 510k approval at the FDA is in preparation. The required prerequisites have already been created, and the products have been successfully tested.

The future is colourful

At Yanimed, the desire for more visibility has led to the development of eye-catching brand identity in every respect. It counters the sterile white in use in the world’s research facilities and laboratories as a sign of purity with a colourful new design concept. Like nature itself, the new look embodies diversity and passion in all shapes and colours. “Our products are designed for everyday use in the lab and are meant to be fun at the same time. Each product has been given new, highly functional yet colourful packaging, so it’s recognizable at a glance.” Simultaneously, the rebranding also reflects the dedication with which the people at Yanimed and in the laboratories and research facilities work on innovative solutions for the future.
