SIERRA ORO FARM TRAIL LAUNCHES A NEW FARM & WINE PASS, EXPANDS TO A MONTH-LONG HARVEST CELEBRATION IN OCTOBER
Mobile Passes Available for Purchase Starting August 9
After pausing for a year, the Sierra Oro Farm Trail is back and bigger than ever with a new mobile Farm & Wine Pass accepted at more than 30 Butte County farms and wineries during a month-long harvest celebration beginning on October 1, 2021.
The mobile Sierra Oro Farm & Wine Pass – a collaboration between the Sierra Oro Farm Trail and Explore Butte County – opens the door to world-class specialty farms and wineries throughout Butte County. Guests hungry for a unique hands-on adventure can enjoy an expanded harvest celebration where visitors can stroll through farms to pick fresh apples from the tree or pumpkins from the vines, sample artisan olive oils, specialty nuts and award-winning wines, all while getting to know the dedicated farmers and winemakers.
“The Sierra Oro Farm Trail is expanding so that we can welcome more guests with an enhanced experience, fewer crowds and more specials. Additionally, this shift to a month-long tour allows guests more time to spread out and enjoy their favorite stops at their leisure without having to rush,” said Nicole Johansson, organizer of the Sierra Oro Farm Trail.
The mobile pass follows a trend of digital passes in large-market food and wine experiences and takes the Sierra Oro Farm Trail to the next level using digital and mobile technology. Additionally, if successful, the passes can be expanded into seasonal or year-round tours. The pass requires no paper ticket and will be more COVID-friendly as the delta-variant and other unknown health factors may continue to impact large gatherings and events.
Mobile Food & Wine Passholders can set their own pace as they explore a variety of more than 30 farms and wineries along the Sierra Oro Farm Trail the entire month of October. Hours for each stop are posted within the mobile pass, convenient for pre-planning touring routes. Most wineries and farms are open on the weekends, and many have added hours during the week.
During the extended month-long harvest celebration many farms will offer more than just a tour and tasting.
Here’s how it works:
• Once a Farm & Wine Pass is purchased at www.sierraoro.org, mobile passholders will receive a text and an email confirming purchase.
• Instructions will guide the passholder to save the pass to the home screen on their smart phone for future easy access.
• As passholders travel the trail, they will check in and redeem offers at each farm and winery they visit.
• The pass will unlock special discounts unique to each location.
• Pass offers can only be used once at each participating venue.
• Special events will pop-up throughout the month of October to surprise passholders with new offers and experiences available exclusively through their digital pass.
“Extending the Sierra Oro Farm Trail by offering a month-long Farm & Wine Pass builds on the nearly twenty years of celebrating the local farmers and ranchers throughout Butte County and offers more time to enjoy all of the farms,” said Carolyn Denero, Chief Executive Officer, Explore Butte County. “Plus, this easy-to-use mobile Farm & Wine Pass is a great way to introduce the bounty of the fall harvest to new enthusiasts who are looking for a fun weekend road trip getaway.”
Two new stops along the Farm Trail this year include the exciting return of Mooney Farms, maker of Bella Sun Lucci Sun Dried Tomatoes in Chico, CA, and Wooley Farms, an organic farm located in Gridley, CA.
“Butte County is uniquely positioned with a diverse array of farms and wineries, making our annual event stand out for both wine and food enthusiasts,” said Jamie Johansson, farmer and co-founder of the Sierra Oro Farm Trail. “In addition to a gourmet tasting experience, guests get to meet generations of family farmers and winemakers. That personal relationship with the growers is what makes our tour so special.”
The passes will be available for online purchase at Sierraoro.org beginning August 9, 2021 and will be for sale throughout the month of October for $40.00 per person. Children 12 and under are free. The value of the pass tastings, discounts and experiences exceeds $150.
Another way to partake in the bountiful harvest is to have a limited-edition commemorative tasting box delivered to your doorstep. Sierra Oro Tasting boxes are available in collaboration with Sohnrey Family Foods. For more information, to purchase the Farm & Wine Pass and/or add-on tasting boxes (available under the “shop” tab), please visit www.sierraoro.org.
