Over recent years self hoisting has become more widely accepted by OTs and other HCPs as part of independent living. One company leading the way in working with OTs and supplying the necessary equipment is Dolphin Lifts.
“When speaking to clients, it is important to discuss all the equipment and hoisting options available as self hoisting may not be suitable for everybody. We are always on hand to discuss with the user and OT the ease with which self hoisting can be incorporated as part of a more independent lifestyle, even if it may be with the partial aid of a family member or carer. The latest technological advances mean there is always a solution and it is our aim to ensure we leave every client with as high a level of independence and comfort as possible,” explained Craig Dunnage from Dolphin Lifts.
Self hoisting not only increases a person’s level of independence, but also has a positive effect on budgets as the ability to safely self hoist reduces the amount of care required and the associated costs to local authorities and care homes.
Jason Miller from Cambridgeshire is a great example of someone who has benefitted from self hoisting. Following an accident on holiday that left him paralysed, Jason underwent months of rehabilitation and an essential part of this was daily hydrotherapy sessions which Jason would need to continue at home.
“The installation of the hoist has made a real difference to my day to day life as swimming and hydrotherapy sessions play a vital role in my ongoing treatment plan. From a personal point of view having the ability to hoist myself in and out of the water independently is just fantastic,” commented Jason.
