Search Engine Optimisation Myth Busting From Boost Agency
Industry: Advertising & Marketing
Boost Agency dismiss some common myths about search engine optimisation.
United Kingdom (PRUnderground) April 2nd, 2014
Over the last decade there have been numerous notable changes in the way in which searchers perform queries through search engines and how they interact with results. Search engines, such as Google, Yahoo and Bing have also changed. Search engines have changed the way in which they rank pages, these changes have resulted in a number of SEO myths. Collected beneath are a number of popular SEO myths:
Social media and SEO are not interrelated: The combination of social media and SEO is commonly known as “social search”. The key to gaining the best social search results is to ensure that a social media strategy is added to a company’s SEO efforts.
Keywords need to be an exact match: Simply put, the same keyword or words do not need to be repeated excessively throughout content. The goal of content should be to inform the human reader, not the search engines.
There is an optimum keyword density for a page: This is just not true. There is no optimum number of times which a keyword should be mentioned on a page. The key is to make content clear and ensure that it will appeal to the human reader
The more pages I have, the better: Again this is not true for three main reasons, the first is that not everything which a site publishes is indexed and secondly, sometimes a page is indexed and then later removed from the index. Finally and most importantly, just because a page is ranked does not mean that it will generate organic traffic and leads.
The important thing to take away from these points is that search engine optimisation is a complex art involving a number of interlinked factors. These factors include, SERP listing, the quality and relevancy of content and the overall functionality of the site itself.
