Kyiv, Ukraine (PRUnderground) May 27th, 2019

The charity publishing project of the IT company Lucky Labs is preparing for the presentation and distribution of two new popular science books to Ukrainian libraries. One of them was written by the Japanese writer Masao Morita. This is the first time when it got translated into Ukrainian. The initiator of the project, founder of the IT company Lucky Labs Rustam Gilfanov shares his thoughts about this.

“The history of this book in the project begins at one of the largest book exhibitions of the world in Bologna. There we saw a book “How the mathematician turned into an ant” by Masao Morita. It received very favorable reviews during the exhibition and impressed the representatives of our project. Soon, it was decided to translate the book and present to Ukrainian readers,” says Gilfanov.

In the story, the main character of the book, a mathematician, miraculously turns into an ant. Now he is interested in how ants perceive numbers. Change in the environment and circumstances contribute to new issues, but perseverance and curiosity overpower, and, in the end, his idea of numbers suddenly expands and becomes more complex.

“This book will be most interesting for little readers who are just starting their way to explore the world and mathematics,” says the initiator of the LuckyBooks project.

Rustam Gilfanov said the book about ant-mathematician is not the only Lucky Labs novelty of this spring. A presentation of the book by Ukrainian writer Galyna Tkachuk in collaboration with Kyiv schoolchildren, took place at the largest book exhibition in Ukraine, Book Arsenal 2019.

“Book about Garbage” is the result of our experimental ecological book workshop for teenagers. They chose a crucial problem that needed to be resolved as soon as possible. The teens decided that such problem is garbage. They identified top-priority issues and tried to find solutions to them. Galyna Tkachuk structured the ideas, and together with illustrator Anton Selleshiy turned schoolchildren’s thoughts into a fascinating story,” says Rustam Gilfanov.

The book charity project of the IT company Lucky Labs came out at Book Arsenal 2017. For two years of its existence, the project has replenished funds of over 200 libraries in various regions of Ukraine and distributed over 5, 000 Ukrainian-language non-fiction books for teenagers.
