Roborace Returns To The Track With Revised Season Beta Competition Calendar

Roborace, the world’s first autonomous racing series, has announced today a full twelve-race schedule of the 2020 Roborace Season Beta Championship, initially postponed due to the global COVID-19 pandemic.

Roborace has been working closely with teams, partners and authorities since March to design a calendar that is safe for the entire Roborace community. The twelve races will be hosted over six events.. Although closed to the public for safety reasons, all race events will be covered via livestream so that Roborace’s global audience won’t miss any of the action.

Season Beta’s racing events will add new features throughout the championship including the integration of the Roborace Metaverse, a mixed reality world within the competition to further challenge teams, build excitement for viewers, and push the boundaries of “motorsports 2.0.” Season Beta will also update Roborace’s autonomous overtaking algorithms with ground-breaking technology that is one of the benefits to come out of the extended off-season.

Roborace’s schedule is designed to be flexible, a format that can respond to current public health guidelines for sporting events. If necessary, Season Beta has the ability to become a remote competition if all teams are unable to travel to an event due to safety and governmental travel restrictions.

The remote competitions will remain live and take place on actual race tracks, but the teams, working remotely, will send their software stack to our onsite operations engineers to run the car as the teams monitor progress through our Roborace “Race Control” platform.

The revised Season Beta calendar is as follows:

Sept 21, 2020      Round 1

Sept 22, 2020      Round 2

Oct 20, 2020       Round 3

Oct 21, 2020       Round 4

Dec 10, 2020      Round 5

Dec 11, 2020      Round 6

Jan 27, 2021       Round 7

Jan 28, 2021       Round 8

Mar 31, 2021      Round 9

Apr 1, 2021        Round 10

May 6, 2021       Round 11

May 7, 2021       Round 12

Chip Pankow, Chief Championship Officer of Roborace, said:

“We have been working with our teams and partners to create a revised schedule that allows us to restart Roborace competition in the safest possible way. During the past several months we have also re-prioritized our internal development programs and those of our teams to emerge from this challenging time in a strong position. Being a fully autonomous championship has allowed us to create contingencies so that we may continue our competition with safety as a top priority and our global audience of digital natives won’t miss any of the action.”

Ivan Istomin, Chief Metaverse Officer of Roborace, said:

“We’re very excited to show the world our vision of motorsport 2.0. Metaverse connects real-time virtual and physical worlds by integrating its elements into a shared universe model right on the trackside. This allows us to enrich racing scenes with mixed reality objects and push our AI challenges to a new dimension for our teams and, by transferring object control to our audience, we are inventing new competition formats transforming the audience experience.”
