Rochester Institute of Technology meets the needs of its technology-savvy community with the implementation of a new online bookstore.
Rochester, NY (PRUnderground) October 10th, 2022
After a highly-competitive process, Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) selected Akademos as their online bookstore provider to support the Fall 2022 semester. RIT is a four-year, private university in Western New York serving a population of over 16,000 students. The university includes nine colleges with a range of disciplines. The most popular disciplines include engineering, computer and information science, and engineering technologies.
“Akademos was selected for its technology-forward application and its ability to deliver on the requirements of RIT students and faculty. Their platform is designed to provide students with choices for affordable course materials in a convenient way,” said Milagros Concepcion, Associate Vice President, Controller and Assistant Treasurer. She went on to say, “Akademos is a ‘digital native,’ built on the delivery of digital content while having textbook capabilities. Bottom line is Akademos’ vision for addressing the course material needs of our faculty and students is future-focused and best aligns with our technology savvy RIT community.”
In anticipation of beginning their search for a new online bookstore provider, RIT conducted a student and faculty survey to ensure the administration’s vision for the online bookstore aligned with the needs of both populations. Over 300 faculty and 2,200 students participated in their respective surveys.
RIT students are now able to utilize a single-sign-on solution through the RIT Tiger Center, a campus tool that provides access to essential campus and student information. Through this center, students can easily see their full course schedule and the required course materials selected by RIT faculty.
“Rochester Institute of Technology is educating the next generation of leaders at the intersection of technology, the arts, and design. We are honored to be their chosen online bookstore technology partner,” said CEO of Akademos, Raj Kaji.
