His vast experience and expertise began upon receiving his Medical degree from the University of Iowa medical school in 1977.  He then completed an internship at the University of Iowa in 1978, followed additional training in Prosthetics and Orthotics at Northwestern University in 1980. Dr. Dryer completed his residency in orthopedic surgery in 1982 at the University of Iowa, and went on to complete a fellowship in Spine and Hand Surgery at New Addenbrooks Hospital in Cambridge, England in 1984.

Dedicated to medicine and helping others, Dr. Dryer served in the United States Air Force at Wilford Hall, Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas.  He progressed from staff orthopedist to Chief of Orthopedic Surgery by the time of his discharge in 1988. Sharing his knowledge and expertise, Dr. Dryer served as tecahing staff at the US. Airforce Medical Center Wilford Hall Dept of Orthopeadic Surgery, 1982-1988, as well as Clinical Assistant Professor at the University of Texas Health Science Center, in San Antonio 1985-1988.

Dr. Dryer entered private practice along with Dr. William P. Taylor at The Austin Back Clinic.  With time and a growing practice, the groups became known as the Central Texas Spine Institute. Today, CTSI is the private practice of Dr. Dryer offering world class spine care in Austin, Texas. Dr. Dryer is also affiliated with Westlake Medical Center and Arise Austin Medical Center.

Board certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery, and Fellow in the American College of Surgeons, Dr. Dryer has participated in numerous FDA-approved clinical trials and limits his practice to the cervical and lumbar spine surgery. He holds several publications and is a sought-after speaker for continuing education programs world-wide.

An award-winning spine surgeon and respected innovator in stem cell therapies, Dr. Dryer is an extensively published author in peer reviewed journals.  He has been invited to speak to audiences from the United Kingdom to New York and has authored numerous articles covering a full range of orthopedic conditions as well as patents for spinal implants and stem cell technologies.

An expert in his field, Dr. Dryer was named 1 of 60 spine surgeons on the forefront of biologics & stem cells by MDx Medical, Inc. and has received several honors and awards including the Physician’s Recognition Award for Continuing Medical Education by the American Medical Association, 1983; and the Outstanding Research Award given by the Cervical Spine Society in 1987. He has been featured in Austin’s Top Doctors for 2013, in the Spinal Surgery category by Austin Monthly magazine; a 2010, 2011 Patients Choice physician by Vitals.com.  In 2011, he was named one of Texas Super Doctors by Texas Monthly magazine.
