On Friday 7 September 2018, delegations of the Permanent Missions of Vanuatu, Kiribati, and Eswatini and other member states of the United Nations gathered at the Office of the Commonwealth to discuss the promotion of sustainable peace and human rights. The summit is hosted by Heavenly Culture, World Peace, Restoration of Light (HWPL), an international peace organization accredited by the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations, Member States were in solidarity with the peace initiatives led by HWPL and supported HWPL’s alignment with the core purposes of the United Nations.
The Permanent Representatives in attendance were in full support for the WARP Summit and ensured that their delegations would be represented in future summits. Although conflicts are multidimensional and highly complex, the HWPL Peace Summit is a platform to give a voice to all people and to create new networks of collaboration with the purpose of restoring and maintaining peace and security.
The HWPL Summit is held annually in the Republic of Korea on September 17-19. It was created as a celebration of peace and to gather all sectors of society to advance this common goal. Each year, the summit gathers 200,000 people from over 100 countries. Participants include former and current heads of states, ministers, parliamentarians, judges, academics, journalists, youth and women leaders, and religious leaders.
Along with the discussions of the HWPL Summit, the ambassadors also expressed their support for the Declaration of Peace and Cessation of War (DPCW). The DPCW was drafted by HWPL’s International Law Peace Committed comprised of 21 law experts from 16 countries. Participants agreed that it is fully aligned with the UN Charter and shares the noble goal to strengthen international peace and security and ensure that the fundamental human rights are preserved for all people.
Mr. Man Hee Lee, chairman of HWPL, gave his insight into the purpose of the DPCW, “All people yearn for peace, but until now, there was no sustainable method to achieve it since we still have an everyday environment where we are exposed to violence. The 10 Articles and 38 clauses of the DPCW is the method.”
Since the Declaration of World Peace was first proclaimed on May 25 2013, HWPL has worked on its international law initiative to draft an instrument for all States to adopt that ultimately promotes a culture of peace and ceases all wars. This Declaration not only encapsulates and supports all of the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals but also serves as a foundation for future peace activities for its implementation at all levels of society.
