National Education Foundation Announces $100 Million Grants to Disadvantaged Schools

Industry: Education

The unique program targets one million students

Washington, DC (PRUnderground) January 5th, 2021

The National Education Foundation (NEF), the national non-profit leader in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) education, is announcing three scholarship programs to better facilitate in-class, remote, and hybrid learning during this pandemic:

1.    100% digital literacy grants for 500 disadvantaged school districts/schools across the U.S.— in total, one million students, teachers and parents will benefit.

2.    100% online math and reading scholarships for 100 K-8 school districts/schools.

3.    90% scholarships to access 8,000 top-quality online courses and certifications in IT, Business and Office Productivity, with live mentoring and State University of New York (SUNY) certificates for 500 9-12 school districts/schools.

To qualify for a grant, a school district/school must have over 35% of their students enrolled in Free/Reduced Meals. Eligible candidates can apply at www.stemnef.org. The deadline for application is January 22, 2021.

The 12-hour digital literacy online course offered by NEF was developed by SUNY, the largest university in the U.S. The course is mapped to national and international standards, and includes computer and Internet skills as well as application skills. Those who complete the course receive SUNY certificates.

NEF’s STEM Vision for America is to help prepare one million students for college and the STEM workforce.

NEF Chairman Dr. Appu Kuttan, a philanthropist, global STEM expert and advisor to national and global leaders, states, “Our students, teachers and parents need all the help and support they can get during these critical COVID and post-COVID periods. NEF is focused on this mission.”

NEF programs are result-oriented. K-8 STEM Academy students advanced more than one grade level in reading and math during the 2019-20 school year despite the sweeping changes brought on by COVID. Dr. Kuttan credits such extraordinary success to the ability of teachers to switch to remote and blended learning effectively. Apply at www.stemnef.org.

“I am so excited for our students and teachers. They have worked so hard to achieve national recognition in spite of COVID. I want to thank NEF for the wonderful support, motivational programs and weekly student progress evaluation. We are looking forward to the continued partnership.” – Dr. Travis G. Madison, Superintendent of Barr Reeves, IN.

The success of NEF-SUNY’s unique STEM Academy Program is based on effective individualized learning mapped to every state’s standards, weekly student performance evaluation, teacher training, SUNY certificates, and stipend/support for effective implementation.
