Michelle McLean, Miss Universe in 1992, Media Personality, MC, Motivational Speaker, Founder & Chairperson of the Michelle McLean Children Trust was recently selected as Top Entrepreneur & Humanitarian of the Year by the International Association of Top Professionals (IAOTP) for her outstanding leadership, dedication and her humanitarian contributions.
While inclusion with the International Association of Top Professionals is an honor in itself, only a few members in each discipline are chosen for this distinction. With close to 30 years of experience in media, Michelle is an internationally recognized model, television personality, master of ceremonies, speaker, entrepreneur and philanthropist. She is a talented, dynamic, results-driven leader who has demonstrated success throughout her entire career.
At the age of 13 Michelle began her international modeling career and went on to win the Miss Universe title in 1992 at the age of 19 for Namibia, South Africa. From 1992 to 1995 she studied acting in Hollywood, while living in Los Angeles. Michelle has an impressive repertoire of prior roles including, Partner and Director of the Engel & Volkers Property Group in South Africa, and Co-founder and Partner of Donna Terra Fine Jewelry, founder of a Media Training Company, Captivate, and a Brands Communication company in South Africa, Brands Rock. Michelle was a consultant on Solar Energy for Soitec, she was a preliminary and a final telecast Judge for the prestigious Miss Universe Competition in Bangkok, Thailand and served as the Official Presentation Coach for Miss Florida and Miss California USA Organizations.
As a television host and producer for 25 years, she did many shows ranging from a reality model search program, showcasing celebrity homes, fashion, as well as sports and travel documentaries. Michelle has hosted, presented, and endorsed numerous TV and radio shows around the world. She is previously, the Face for Lux Lotion, and the official voice of MTN (a cellular network in Africa) for the past ten years.
Moreover, Michelle manages a demanding Master of Ceremonies and Speaker/Spokesperson schedule for many international corporations. Her clients have included: The World Economic Forum, Puma, Revlon, Levi Strauss, Volvo, Nike, Ford Motor Company, YouTube, MTV, Fortune Magazine, Louis Vuitton and the Nelson Mandela Foundation.
Currently, Michelle is President of Africa’s Finest Safaris, a Tourism Marketing Specialist company, for travelers from the US, and internationally, offering Safaris and tours to Southern Africa, specifically her country, Namibia. (www.africasfinestsafaris.com)
In addition to her successful career, Michelle founded the Michelle McLean University, which provides professional training for presentation in business from poise to boardroom, modeling, and pageant coaching. Michelle offers seminars, in person and online, and one-on-one coaching as well as workshops for Confidence Building, Modeling and Beauty competitions. She is a recognized Keynote Speaker at conferences on Empowering women in Leadership. Michelle specializes in techniques scientifically proven in reducing stress and pressure, and coping with work interviews, speeches and presentations. Entrepreneurship, Success under Pressure, and the Business of Beauty. Empowering Women is her passion.
Furthermore, Michelle is an active philanthropist who established the Michelle McLean Children Trust in Namibia in 1992. Over the past 28 years it has initiated 10 projects for international celebrities like Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt. The Michelle McLean Primary School provides education for over 1,100 children every year, since 2000. Plus, she established the Michelle McLean School of Excellence, which provides, scholarships, entrepreneurial and financial skills training to thousands of students.
Michelle worked as a UNICEF ambassador for many years, she also had the honor of working with the Archbishop Emeritus Desmond Tutu (the Founder of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission in South Africa, after the abolishment of Apartheid) as an ambassador for the SOS Children’s Villages in Southern Africa. Michelle has also dedicated her time to Fundraising for President Nelson Mandela and for the Nelson Mandela Children’s Trust.
Throughout her illustrious career, Michelle has received many awards, accolades and has been recognized worldwide for her outstanding leadership and commitment to her humanitarian contributions. This year she will be considered for a feature article in TIP (Top Industry Professionals) Magazine and is also being considered for IAOTP’s Female Visionary of the Year Award and the prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award. Michelle will be honored at IAOTP’s Annual Awards Gala being held at the Plaza Hotel in New York City this this December and she will be featured on the famous Reuters Billboard in Times Square NYC. In previous years, Michelle was recognized by the President of the United States, Mr. Donald Trump, then the owner of the Miss Universe Organization and presented with The Lifetime Achievement Award for her philanthropy work. Michelle won the Best Title Holder Award at the Global Beauty Awards, for her business and philanthropy work.
