“Mama Knows”, starring Guy Kapulnik, Yael Maftsir Botser and Jaime Avera, is a short comedy about a talk show that explores love and relationships. The film will be part of We Make Movies International Film Festival in Los Angeles running July 16th – 19th. The film also took part in film festivals DMOFF and LIFT OFF SESSIONS.
The host is a gorilla named Mama, portrayed by Kapulnik, who hits the streets of Los Angeles, meets with real people and gives practical tips on how to find true love. The kind of humor in the film is not unlike that of “Borat” starring Sacha Baron Cohen. Kapulnik shares his motivations: “Many things have changed in recent years in the dating world. Men don’t initiate as much, a great deal of communication is digital and the traditional roles of men and women in romance are constantly challenged.”
KAPULNIK: “I love women and I wanted to help them.”
Mama gives guidance on who initiates communication, where to find a good man, who pays for the first date, how to keep your man away from those dating apps, how to predict when your man is gonna pop the question and lots of juicy tips on keeping him in love.
“I love women and I wanted to help them find and nurture their relationship. Advice coming from a gorilla is easier to accept.” says Kapulnik. This isn’t his first piece about relationships. His play “The Center for Research and Contemplation” (co-written with Yoav Shutan and produced by Hasimta Theater) is an interactive theater play that explores modern love stories.
