Leroy A. White P. E. (Ret.) was recently selected as Top Chief Engineer of the Year for 2021 given by the International Association of Top Professionals (IAOTP) for his outstanding leadership, dedication and commitment to the mechanical engineering industry.
While inclusion with the International Association of Top Professionals is an honor in itself, only a few members in each discipline are chosen for this distinction. These special honorees are distinguished based on their professional accomplishments, academic achievements, leadership abilities, other affiliations and contributions to their communities. With over fifty years of professional experience as a mechanical engineer, Mr. White has certainly proven himself as an accomplished professional and expert in the field. He is a dynamic, results-driven leader, who has demonstrated success throughout the entirety of his seasoned career. Mr. White retired in 2019, after serving as Plant Manager, four positions as Chief Mechanical Engineer at four A. & E. firms in Ohio and Indiana.
His impressive repertoire of prior roles comprised of all Mr. White’s consulting work on heating and cooling projects with a diverse number of engineering and architectural firms such as: John David Jones & Associates, The Architects Collaborative Inc. on the University of Baghdad project, James Architect & Engineers Inc. and MKC Associates. Mr. White also served as the host of Green Energy Ohio Tours and he is the original creator of Nighttime Green Energy Generation from PV Arrays (Patent Pending expired, pictured at Twitter @Hywinsol).
As Plant Manager at the Indianapolis Methodist Hospital, Mr. White contributed his knowledge and expertise of natural gas-powered centrifugal chiller systems for more than three million square feet for the upgrade its cooling system. He designed and built a groundbreaking hybrid chilled water plant, powered by commercially available gas engines. This conserved over 25 percent energy and lowered the plant’s electrical demand charges.
Before Mr. White began his career, he served four years in the United States Air Force having served in the far east with TDY in Vietnam. Always interested in his studies, Mr. White enrolled at the University of Akron, under the GI bill and earned his Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering in 1969. As a registered engineer, he held licenses in five states which proved his credibility and skillfulness over the course of his career. While employed at CSO Architects, Mr. White was designing systems in the educational and hospitality fields.
In addition to his successful career, Mr. White is an active member of his community and devotes a significant amount of time to volunteer work for Harvest Sharing and growing food for local food banks. He also enjoys his involvement in community activities at his local Senior Center. Moreover, Mr. White has set up a commercial launch for his photovoltaic array and hopes to see the technology adopted as a tool for engineers, builders and homeowners to generate electricity 24/7 instead of 12/7.
Throughout his illustrious career, Mr. White has received awards, accolades and been recognized worldwide for his outstanding leadership and commitment to the industry. This year he will be considered for a feature article in TIP (Top Industry Professionals) Magazine and has also received the Lifetime Achievement Award given by Marquis Who’s Who as published in WSJ. Leroy will receive his Top Chief Engineer of the Year Award on stage at IAOTP’s 2021 Annual Awards Gala being held at the magnificent Plaza Hotel in NYC. In previous years, Mr. White has received a variety of recognitions from a number of who’s who organizations as a Top Engineer.

Looking back, Mr. White attributes his success to his perseverance, his hard work and his unique passion for engineering. When not working, he enjoys spending time with his friends and family and gardening. For the future, Mr. White hopes to continue adding more technology for green energy to the industry.
