Le Tour de France Passes Through the After Dinner World Village of Ripponden

It was expected that 3.5 billion people from 180 countries will follow in the world’s biggest annual sporting event. Yorkshire did not disappoint! After Dinner World are based in Ripponden and were fortunate to have this amazing event pass it’s front door!

Stage 2 went from Harrogate to Sheffield, passing through the beautiful pennine village of Ripponden. Thousands of spectators took to the streets in true sporting spirit. 

Stones Church on Rochdale road, Cote de Ripponden, served breakfast from early on, and held a family fun day which lasted until late afternoon. Children entertained the crowds with a rendition of their Tour anthem. 

Thousands lined the streets through the village and up the Cote de Ripponden to cheer on Chris Froome and the rest of the peloton.

The Telegraph reported the followed as the riders raced through Ripponden. “14.20 Cyril Lemoine (Cofidis, Solutions Crédits) has just gone level in the mountains classification after taking another couple of points atop the category three Côte de Ripponden. Plenty of time for that to change though with six more climbs.”

The winner of stage 2 was 29 year old Nibali,  from Messina in Italy. 

Mark explained “As a home office based in Ripponden, near Halifax we were fortunate enough yesterday to enjoy one of those “once in a lifetime” occasions, as the Tour De France passed through our village. The locals were out in force and really did the region proud in supporting this fantastic event. The weather showcased Yorkshire for the beautiful county it is and must surely have generated a lot of interest in the area.  I am certain it won’t be the last time this historic event comes here”
