Typically, a modern projector lamp has a lifetime of between 2000 and 3000 hours, which seems like a colossal amount of time, equating to around seven years of continual use. However, if these lamps are not correctly cared for their lifetime can be massively reduced. Collected beneath are JP-UK’s top tips to expand the lifetime of Projector Lamps:
· Following purchase, test the bulb. If a projector lamp is going to fail it will most likely occur during the first 20 hours of operation. Due to this it is important to test the bulb by running it constantly for a period of 20 hours.
· Select the optimum operating environment. The environment in which a projector bulb operates can have a massive impact of its longevity. Due to this, avoid dusty environments which have extreme temperatures and levels of humidity.
· Avoid on/off cycles. Try to minimise the amount of times the projector is turned off and then on again. Each time this occurs there is a surge of power which can cause damage to the bulbs filaments.
· Do not touch the bulb directly. Avoid touching the projector bulb without gloves as the oil and detritus on a hand can cause “hot spots” on the bulb. These hot spots create temperature gradient stresses which can cause the bulb to fail prematurely.
