Acceptd, the World’s Largest Artists Network, today announced the results of its online presidential poll. Green Party Candidate Jill Stein came away with 40% of the vote, outdistancing second place Hillary Clinton by 6 percentage points.
“We strive to be of the voice of young artists and to help educate our 200,000 plus members on the issues that impact them,” said Derek Brown, CEO of Acceptd.
Brown explained that Acceptd created a quiz asking a cross section of artists for stances on arts-related topics like censorship and public funding of art. Each quiz question offered four viewpoints, each of which aligned with a publicly stated view of Hillary Clinton, Donald Trump, Gary Johnson or Jill Stein. Nearly 600 artists from around the United States participated in the quiz.
“While Jill Stein is trailing in national polls, it’s clear that her stance on funding art, limiting censorship and making higher education free all resonate with our audience of young artists,” Don Hunter, President of Acceptd added.
Hunter said that between the main party candidates Clinton beat Trump by 10 percentage points. “Clinton has historically been a supporter of the National Endowment of the Arts while Trump has called for NEA to stop funding controversial art.”
Brown continued, “Gary Johnson, while doing well with millennials nationwide performed poorly in our poll, capturing only two votes. Johnson has advocated for ending all public funding of art.”
