Yaser El-Gazzar, MD, has been in practice since 2012. He is licensed to practice medicine in multiple states. He completed his medical education at Drexel University College of Medicine in Philadelphia and went on to complete his Orthopedic Surgery residency at Albert Einstein Medical College/Montefiore Medical Center in New York City.

To further add to his training, he went on to complete Subspecialty Fellowship Training in Orthopedic Sports Medicine/ Joint Preservation Surgery at the Prestigious Hughston Foundation in Georgia where he contributed to the care of many athletes from professional athletes to local High School athletes to the Weekend Warrior.

Yaser El-Gazzar, MD’s practice is quite vast as he enjoys taking care of all patients of all walks of life from General Orthopedics to Trauma/Fracture Care to his subspecialty focus of Sports Medicine/Joint Preservation Surgery of both adults and older pediatric to adolescent patients.

One of his passions is his focus on Joint Preservation, both Non-operative and Operative care. “Joint Preservation is this evolving, exciting, facet of Orthopedic Sports Medicine that is truly focused on preserving the joints of patients, preventing the development of arthritis as much as possible. Each patient requires a custom-tailored treatment plan that is truly created for each individual patient factoring in the patient’s severity and location of injury/damage, lifestyle, activity level, occupation, and goals. We are able to use the developments in the field of Joint Preservation to deliver multiple treatment options. For example, for an isolated cartilage injury in an athlete’s knee, ranging in invasiveness from lifestyle modification and core strengthening to PRP and stem cell injections to cartilage transplants of many different forms to re-alignment procedures, all with the common goal of alleviating pain and restoring function/activity. We also have the added benefit of delaying the development of arthritis significantly, with some procedures eliminating that dreaded development completely.” Dr. El-Gazzar explains.

Keeping in mind that surgery is truly the last option after all conservative treatments have failed, Dr. El-Gazzar specializes in all forms of Joint Preservation/Cartilage Restoration/Sports Medicine Surgery including minimally invasive surgical techniques such as Hip Arthroscopy, Elbow Arthroscopy, Wrist Arthroscopy, Ankle Arthroscopy, and Knee Arthroscopy. Joint Preservation surgical treatments specific to the knee include Autologous Chondrocyte Implantation (aka: MACI procedure), Autograft Cartilage Transplants (for smaller cartilage injuries), Allograft Cartilage Transplants (for the larger cartilage injuries), multiple ligament reconstructions including ACL and PCL, meniscus repair and transplants, realignment procedures (for example high tibial osteotomy), to name a few. Many of the minimally invasive procedures as mentioned above can be applied to any of the other joints in the body especially when considering cartilage transplants/restoration procedures. He also enjoys fracture care and general orthopedic surgery.

One of the unique aspects of Yaser El-Gazzar, MD’s approach to treating patients is his understanding of what the patients are experiencing that it has helped him develop an ability to communicate effectively with patients not only to understand their diagnosis and treatment options but also to helping them play an active role in deciding and facilitating those treatment options. This ability stems from his own personal experiences being a patient, having undergone 7 major surgeries in his lifetime starting at a very young age.
