Jackie Smith’s 8th Novel Releases Today, Follows a Family Whose Child Has Been Abducted

The news story which draws the most interest and tugs at the hearts of every parent is that of a missing child.  This story takes the reader through the nightmare of a child abduction. The family awakens to an ordinary Thursday morning.  The regular routine falls into place; showers, a quick breakfast, Dad goes off to an important meeting at his engineering company; and Mom drops the two children off at school.

By an odd coincidence, this is the one day of the week that the mother will be in Felony court working at her job as a Felony probation officer and therefore she does not receive what may be the most important call of her life.  She is unable to send or receive calls on her cell until she leaves the courtroom.  Another coincidence occurs when the attendance clerk at the children’s school calls in ill to work and the absentees are not posted and parents of absentee children are not notified.

Though one of the child’s teachers does mark her as absent; a rare occurrence for this child, who loves school. This teacher tries to call the mother and find out if she is ill, but the phone goes straight to voice mail. The teacher gets busy and does not attempt the call again.  Several hours go by without anyone except her homeroom teacher knowing the girl is not in class.

It isn’t until the father goes to the school’s aftercare program to pick the two up; something he does every Thursday because of his wife’s court schedule, that he finds his daughter missing.  He knows his wife did not pick up the girl; the police are called, the alarm goes out, detectives are assigned to the case and the race is on to find the child; alive.

The two detectives assigned to the case are unable to stay objective; both have children of their own and the reader is drawn into their frustration and desire to find this child.  The reader will ride the same up and down roller-coaster as the detectives and parents as new cases develop. In one of these cases; a child is found alive; giving the family new hope. The missing child’s belongings are located, but do not lead to the abductor. The unexpected twists and turns will keep the reader guessing until the surprising ending.
