Irena Zubcevic selected for the Lifetime Achievement Award by the International Association of Top Professionals (IAOTP)

Irena Zubcevic,  Director 1 of Intergovernmental Policy and Review Branch at the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs was recently selected for the Lifetime Achievement Award by the International Association of Top Professionals (IAOTP) for her outstanding leadership and commitment to the industry.

While inclusion with the International Association of Top Professionals is an honor in itself, only a few members are selected for the Lifetime Achievement Award. These special honorees are distinguished based on their longevity in their fields, their contributions they have made to society and the impact they have had on their industries. Ms. Zubcevic was also selected by IAOTP as Top Chief of the Year in Sustainable Development. She will receive these recognitions at IAOTP’s Annual Awards Gala.  www.iaotp.com/award-gala

Ms. Zubcevic is being recognized for this distinction for having over 3 decades of professional experience in international relations and sustainable development. She has certainly proven herself as an extraordinary professional and expert in the field. Irena Zubcevic is a dynamic, visionary and results-driven leader who has demonstrated success not just through diplomacy, international relations, public policy and sustainable development, but she also successfully engages and implements her projects and programs, while assessing and following through in each endeavor she is challenged with.

Ms. Zubcevic’s key areas of expertise include Intergovernmental Processes, Sustainable Development, Rule of Law, Governance, Policy and Strategy Development at National Regional and International Levels, Advocacy and Outreach. Working alongside many high-level functionaries which include, Heads of States and Governments, Ministers, CEOs in private sector, also many media platforms, foundations, academia and civil society in general. Along with these efforts, she has contributed to various reports and authored publications.

Her most current area of focus is on the United Nations high-level political forum on sustainable development. Ms. Zubcevic is supporting countries as well as stakeholders ranging from the private sector to civil society in preparation of voluntary national reviews on implementation of sustainable global goals. She has put strategies into play for a wide range of sustainable development issues such as climate, oceans, cities, sustainable consumption and production and transport.

Her impressive repertoire of prior roles include experience as the  Director 1 of the Ocean and Climate Branch of the Division for Sustainable Development in the UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs and as a Senior Sustainable Development Officer. She also held positions such as:  Adviser to the Ministry of Information of the Republic of Croatia, Head of the English News Service of the Croatian News Agency-HINA and the Minister Plenipotentiary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Croatia.

Before embarking on her current career path, Ms. Zubcevic earned a Bachelor of Science in Linguistics and a Master of Science in Humanities from the University of Zagreb. She rounded her studies at Harvard University with a Certificate for Senior Managers in Government. Ms. Zubcevic is fluent in English, French, Spanish and Italian. She has been trained in a variety of different languages and also has some knowledge of German and Russian, along with several other languages.

Throughout her illustrious career, Ms. Zubcevic has received many awards and accolades and has been recognized in numerous publications and magazines worldwide for her outstanding leadership roles and commitment to her field. This year she will have a featured article in T.I.P. (Top Industry Professional) Magazine and is being considered for an exclusive interview on T.I.P. Radio by the International l Association of Top Professionals (IAOTP). She upholds memberships with the International Society of Sustainability Professionals, the National Association of Professional Women, Who’s Who of Professional Women, Marquis Who’s Who in the World and Pride of CCS.

Aside from her successful career, Ms. Zubcevic is an active Board Member for the Women’s Soroptimist International of New York City. She has been recognized by various National and Local Charities and Schools for her excellence.

Looking back, Ms. Zubcevic attributes her success to her persistence, her ability to understand different cultures and mentors with whom she has been honored to collaborate with. She has a true passion for her service and high integrity in all of her professional and personal endeavors. When not working, she enjoys traveling and spending time with her family.  For the future, she hopes to continue to make a difference in people’s lives anyway that she can.
