New York, New York (PRUnderground) September 20th, 2011

Iota Nu Delta is announcing its involvement in a national grassroots, non-partisan, day of service and volunteerism on Saturday, October 1st of 2011 called Be the Change (BTC). In communities in which it is present, the fraternity will be helping to coordinate various events which will happen simultaneously across the country. Through the fraternity’s partnership with SAALT (South Asian American Leading Together), these events promise to bring awareness and resources to individuals seeking to serve their respected communities.

In 2010, Be the Change brought together over thirty five hundred volunteers across fifteen cities and sixty college campuses. SAALT’s event was inspired by Mahatma Gandhi’s quote “You must be the change you wish to see in the world”. This year Iota Nu Delta brothers will be coordinators of BTC day at its many chapters across the country. The fraternity is also helping individuals find out how to volunteer within their community via a Facebook page dedicated to this year’s event. Both the media and people seeking to be involved in the event can find information, real-time updates, and connect with other people by visiting www.Facebook.com/BeTheChange2011.

Iota Nu Delta has been actively promoting this year’s non-partisan Be the Change day through a variety of social media campaigns. The group has had a float in the New York City India Day Parade. The parade drew over one hundred and fifty thousand people, including a few celebrities, like “Bollywood’’ star actress Rani Mukherji, Indian classical singer Pandit Jasraj, and the President of the Republic of Guyana, Bharrat Jagdeo.

Iota Nu Delta’s values exist around the concepts of “Mind, Body, Soul” and “Brotherhood Eternal”, essentially promoting the cultivation of each member’s intellect, profession, leadership in society, and service to humanity. Being involved in this year’s Be the Change’s “Rise Up” event is just another way for the group to continue their leadership and commitment to their local communities on a national scale.

Iota Nu Delta was founded in 1994 as the first ever South Asian interest fraternity. Founded by eight men, the goal of the fraternity is to educate and serve as a vehicle to empower South Asian men, but more importantly to end ignorance about the South Asian culture. Although a South-Asian interest organization, Iota Nu Delta’s goal is to bridge the gaps between people of different backgrounds, ethnicities, and cultures by having them interact with their respective communities. By doing so, the group hopes to encourage a cultural awareness that extends beyond any college campus. Since its inception Iota Nu Delta has grown to twenty-five chapters and colonies nationwide and has a roster of over seven hundred brothers.

South Asian Americans Leading Together (SAALT) is a national, nonpartisan, non-profit organization that elevates the voices and perspectives of South Asian individuals and organizations to build a more just and inclusive society in the United States.
