Seeking innovations that support aging in place

New York, NY (PRUnderground) March 5th, 2024

HITLAB and AgeTech CollaborativeTM from AARP® announced the return of their “Building Tomorrow’s Smart Homes for Longevity” pitch competition.

The challenge aims to pinpoint innovative solutions that enhance the lives of older adults and promote aging in place. Startups throughout the United States are encouraged to apply from now until May 10th. The organizers of the challenge are specifically seeking solutions that address the unique challenges faced by older adults. Examples of these challenges include, but are not limited to: remote care, social connection, sleep management, chronic care management, monitoring, and pain relief.

Up to eight finalists will be chosen to present their solutions to a panel of judges on June 20 for an opportunity to win prizes of up to $10,000, sponsored by HITLAB and AgeTech Collaborative.

Why Aging in Place AgeTech Challenge?

Aging in place is a crucial aspect of ensuring older adults maintain their independence, dignity, and well-being as they age. The AgeTech Challenge seeks to identify and support innovative technologies that address these needs while promoting solutions that make aging in place more comfortable, secure, and enjoyable.

How to Apply:

Interested participants may submit their applications through the official challenge website. The application process is designed to be accessible and inclusive, encouraging a diverse range of solutions and ideas.

“We are thrilled to collaborate with the AgeTech Collaborative from AARP on another AgeTech Challenge in 2024. This initiative aligns with our commitment to leveraging technology for positive healthcare outcomes, especially for the aging population,” said Stan Kachnowski, Chair of HITLAB and Director of the Columbia Business School Digital Health Program.

“More than three-quarters of older adults express a desire to age in their home. As health needs change, the opportunities to set up capabilities for greater care and connection need to meet the increased demand,” said Deborah Jordan, Senior Director, Marketing, AgeTech Collaborative from AARP. “The Age Tech Collaborative has a long-standing commitment to combating social isolation and loneliness among older adults through innovative solutions. Our collaboration with HITLAB will further address this critical issue among older adults. We look forward to seeing the solutions.”

  • Finalists Announced: June 3rd
