Montreal, CANADA (PRUnderground) September 19th, 2022
Hardbacon, a personal finance application used by more than 40,000 Canadians, announced today that it has been nominated as a top 11 startup finalist for the 2022 Calgary Fintech Award.
The Calgary Fintech Award connects fintech startups with a roster of world-class advisors, mentors and judges, to accelerate the growth of businesses. The award champions and celebrates fintech companies that demonstrate clear innovation and a strong value proposition for the Calgary region.
Among the 2022 applications, 24 fintech startups were selected to participate in the inaugural Fintech Awards, getting one step closer to the cash prize. Upon thorough review of the top 24 startups, a final 11 have been selected including Hardbacon. Next, a total of five private fintech company finalists will make a pitch for a $250,000 non-dilutive cash prize that goes straight to their balance sheet.
“To be selected as a finalist marks an important milestone for Hardbacon, especially since establishing ourselves in Alberta was part of our strategic goals for 2022,” said Julien Brault, Hardbacon CEO.
“Hardbacon was first created to address a gap in Quebec, where there was no rate comparison platform. Now, we are seeing similar patterns in Alberta; it’s an important Canadian market that is structurally different from other provinces and it is underserved by established rate comparison sites.”
The Montreal-based fintech start-up was first launched in response to the lack of financial education in Canada. Today, Hardbacon brings together the tools people need to plan, budget, invest, and save, in one smart application, as well as the ability to shop for the financial products that best fit their needs.
Most recently, it also launched a new business section with the aim to help small and midsize businesses (SMBs) make better financial decisions. Looking ahead, Hardbacon aims to become the go-to tool that everyone turns to to make financial decisions pertaining to insurance, credit cards, mortgages, and more.
The inaugural cohort of the Calgary Fintech Award will come to a close on October 14, 2022, where two startups will be awarded a first place prize of $250,000 and a second place prize of $60,000+.
