Fine Art Shippers, an art logistics service provider based in New York, is known for supporting art in all its forms. The company has clients and friends around the world, including in Panama City, Panama. One of them is Weil Art, a well-established gallery showcasing and promoting the best local talent. Fine Art Shippers is pleased to collaborate with Weil Art and support its projects and activities.
Weil Art was founded by Carlos Weil who entered the art business in the 1970s. He started his career by selling Nicaraguan art but later expanded the business to include art pieces from around Latin America.
Carlos Weil and his wife founded the first gallery, which was called Bernheim Gallery after his wife’s last name, in Panama City in 1990. Around 2002, the couple divorced, and Carlos Weil established the Weil Art Gallery. After graduating from college, Carlos’ son, David Weil, began working with his father full-time. By 2015, the gallery had three locations in Panama City. In December 2022, Weil Art opened a new exhibition space in the city.
The main focus of Weil Art is Panamanian art, although it also exhibits art from around Latin America and represents artists from Europe, Asia, and other parts of the world. Weil Art is proud to call itself a “mother gallery”: it supports emerging artists and recent graduates, giving them the opportunity to gain recognition in the art world. Artworks presented at the gallery cover a variety of media, including painting, sculpture, photography, and handicrafts. Weil Art focuses on both works created by the masters of the past and the latest tendencies in contemporary art.
The handicrafts section is a special project for Weil Art. The gallery collaborates with skilled indigenous artisans who work with wood. Craftsmen often draw inspiration from nature and their daily lives, but sometimes, the gallery also contributes its ideas. For example, the recent series of sculptures called “The Guardians” was inspired by the Weil family’s idea to use African figures as a source of inspiration.
In addition to paintings, sculptures, and crafts, Weil Art pays special attention to memorabilia related to the history of Panama and the Panama Canal, showcasing documents, books, maps, and general historical objects. The gallery tries to capture the unique spirit of Panama City, which is a work of art in itself.
Fine Art Shippers is happy to collaborate with Weil Art and support the gallery by helping promote its exhibitions and activities. While art logistics is the main focus of the company, the Fine Art Shippers team does its best to contribute to the development and promotion of arts and cultures around the world. Weil Art is a wonderful art place to visit in Panama City, which should be on the list of every art lover traveling to Panama.
