Dr. Daly-Lipe’s distinguished career began with a Bachelor’s Degree in Philosophy at Vassar College and a Bachelier en Philosophie Thomiste from the Université Catholique de Louvain (Belgium) in the mid-1960’s. Living in Rome, Italy, Dr. Daly-Lipe met her only living relative on her mother’s side, Msgr. William Hemmick. Her book, PATRIOT PRIEST tells her great uncle’s story which she did not know until she researched years later. (When the first World War broke out, he felt committed to help the troops. After the war, he was proclaimed the Patriot Priest of Picardy by the Army and Navy. After years spent in Paris, William Hemmick was asked by the Vatican to come to Rome. Ultimately, he became the only American Canon of St. Peter’s Representing the Knights of Malta to the Holy See.) Dr. Daly-Lipe went on to earn her PhD in Humanities specializing in Creative Arts and Communication from Columbia Pacific University, 1998.
As creativity flows through her veins, Dr. Daly-Lipe can also be found lending her time to her paintings. “Sometimes it’s therapeutic to paint something that reflects how you feel.”
She also rescues Thoroughbred horses. She once raised and raced thoroughbreds (winning at Santa Anita, Hollywood Park, Golden Gate, and Del Mar) and rode and won in the hunter and jumper divisions at California horse shows. Now her granddaughter, Locke Motley, is winning at the horse shows. Two of her rescued horses who insisted on coming with her and her husband when they moved to Florida, “wrote” a book, ‘HORSE TALES, Teddy and Just’n Come to an Understanding’ which she “translated”.
When she’s not writing, Dr. Daly-Lipe enjoys spending time with her three children and husband Dr. Steele Lipe, M.D., a retired anesthesiologist. Both natives of LaJolla, CA, the couple have been married for 24 years, with Steele lending a hand as editor on many of her books, including the ‘Historic Tales of La Jolla’ of where they both grew up.
