In response to the area-wide healthcare worker shortage that prompted New York Gov. Kathy Hochul to issue a statewide disaster emergency, Essen Health Care, a leading healthcare network and group practice for underserved communities in New York State, announced today that it is amplifying its efforts to recruit and onboard qualified medical professionals. The move comes at a time when Essen has significantly grown its coverage within the city’s underserved communities and has expanded its medical service offerings to them.
“Our mission at Essen has always been to strengthen the quality of healthcare for the region’s underserved communities,” said Dr. Sumir Sahgal, Founder & Chief Medical Officer, Essen Health Care. “To do this job, we need committed and passionate medical professionals who want to join us on this journey. That’s why we are ramping-up our efforts to attract these physicians and have them join our team.”
According to new data published recently by the AAMC (Association of American Medical Colleges), the United States could see an estimated shortage of between 37,800 and 124,000 physicians by 2034, including shortfalls in both primary and specialty care.
Essen Health Care, which started 22 years ago by Dr. Sumir Sahgal, has become the largest private comprehensive, multi-specialty, medical group in the Bronx. Today, they are embarking on an aggressive recruitment effort, seeking individuals who are passionate about providing greatly needed healthcare to its underserved communities.
The practice currently has 35 locations throughout the Bronx and Essen Health Care is among the first practices in New York to have achieved the ‘Level 3 Patient Centered Medical Home’ designation. Under Dr. Sahgal’s leadership, Essen has grown into one of the premier healthcare practices in New York City leveraging its Ambulatory Care, Urgent Care, House Calls and Nursing Home divisions.
As part of his commitment to providing the community access to high quality health care, Sahgal has built a network of more than 350 providers who focus on providing some of New York City’s most underserved areas. In addition, Essen’s Care Management provides community care as a Certified Management Agency (CMA) to Health Home and Medicaid Long Term Care Plans.
In additional to house calls, Essen has distinguished itself as a leader of innovative health solutions, including telehealth and other tools to reach its most chronic patients in the comforts of their homes.
The company has also recently introduced an AI-based virtual care assistant, which routinely checks up on patients, asks for their most current readings, and reminds them to take their meds. It has also implemented a remote patient monitoring solution platform that facilitates the tracking of critical patient biometric data on a HIPAA-secure platform.
Essen is seeking applicants from the New York City and the region to attract medical providers who meet the following criteria:
- MD/DO/NP/PA degree
- Active NY License
- Board Certified/Board Eligible
- Openings in Primary Care, Specialty, Nursing Home, House Calls & Urgent Care Divisions
