Dr. Reagan Flowers, Chief Knowledge Officer for Education Consulting Services was recently selected as an Empowered Woman of the Year for 2021 by the International Association of Top Professionals (IAOTP). Dr. Flowers work has led to a successful appointment as a member of the Board of Trustees of the Houston Community College System, a position where her track record of education advocacy, community stakeholder engagement, and demonstrated business acumen has enabled her to strike the right balance as an elected representative. In addition to serving as Vice Chair for the Board of Trustees, she also serves on the Audit Committee with oversight of a nearly $400 million budget. With more than two decades working on the frontlines of education and workforce development issues., Dr. Flowers has certainly proven herself as an extraordinary professional and expert in the field of STEM education. She is a dynamic results-driven leader who has demonstrated success not only as an Educational Innovator, but in every role she has ever served. Dr. Flowers is the founding CEO of C-STEM Teacher and Support Services, Inc. She led operations and fund development, growing the annual program budget from 10,000 to over $500,000 during the first five years of operation. Her accomplishments in that role led to Dr. Flowers recognition as a 2014 White House STEM Access Champion of Change during the Obama administration.
Working for organizations tasked with tackling tough issues related to equitable education, social mobility, economic disparity, diversity, and inclusion, and advocating for access to the right opportunities from the grassroots to grass tops is her personal mission.
Dr. Flowers’ areas of expertise include serving as a Transformational Leader who has a proven track record in building relationships and productive partnerships, and she has gained national recognition for bridging the STEM achievement gap that impacts minorities and female students. As a Motivational Manager, Dr. Flowers assists both staff and students and a champion for women business owners.. Dr. Flowers has maximized beneficial outcomes for those whom her work impacts, by raising funds and administering budgets efficiently, crediting to her expert financial and business management acumen.
Dr. Flowers’ social entrepreneur exploits have guided and supported the development of STEM industry leaders, education innovations, inclusive community engagement programs, and expanded opportunities to experience specialized tech tools and resources. She has increased minority and female engagement in STEM, is a champion for good education public policy, and scales programs successfully.
Dr. Flowers is a first-generation college graduate, reared in Mississippi by way of Michigan, who grew up in a bottom income quintile family. The selfless investments of her elementary and secondary school teachers placed her on a pathway to college and career success—eventually earning a baccalaureate degree in Biology from Texas Southern University, master’s in Counseling from Prairie View A&M University of Texas, and Ph.D. in Education Leadership/Systems from the Union Institute and University.
Throughout her remarkable career, Dr. Flowers has received many awards and accolades, and has been recognized in numerous publications and magazines worldwide for her outstanding leadership roles and commitment to the Education Industry. This year she will be considered for an exclusive interview on TIP Radio and she will receive the Empowered Woman of the Year Award at IAOTP’s 2021 Annual Award Gala. Furthermore, Dr. Flowers will also be honored for her selection as Top Educational Innovator for 2020 and she was featured in TIP Magazine. In 2012, Dr. Flowers was honored by STEMconnector, under the 100 Women Leaders in STEM. Dr. Flowers was the WISE Award Finalist in 2011 at the World Innovation Summit for Education and has received many other merits while she has cultivated change and instilled educational processes for STEM.
In addition to her successful career, Dr. Flowers has served as a National Board Member for the American Leadership Forum for 7 years and served as a Board Member for the City of Bellaire Patron’s Board, which supports the environment for 2 years. She was appointed by the City of Houston to the Public Library HALAN Board for Education for 5 years and was previously Chairman of the Texas Business Education Coalition STEM Education Sub-Committee for Education for 3 years. Dr. Flowers currently serves as one of the leads of the Minority Leadership in Science Education Initiative for the Smithsonian Institute Science Education Center over the last 5 years. Dr. Flowers established STEMcast, her podcast which has over 6,000 listeners in over 42 countries.
Looking back, Dr. Flowers attributes her success to her desire to learn, her persistence to lead, a commitment to attaining specific goals, and mentors she has had the honor to work alongside of. She maintains high integrity in all of her professional and personal endeavors and is committed to lifting up the next generation of leaders. When not working, she enjoys traveling and spending time with her family. For the future, Dr. Flowers hopes to continue to make a difference in people’s lives anyway that she can.
