San Diego, CA (PRUnderground) June 22nd, 2020
Dr. Kami Hoss, the renowned founder of the San Diego area’s The Super Dentists, recently shared information about the practice’s new coronavirus-friendly virtual dentist offices during an interview with Fox 5 News San Diego.
Hoss told the news station’s Tabitha Lipkin that the new virtual dental offices feature augmented reality for children. The virtual offices are a way for The Super Dentists’ pediatric patients and their families to keep learning about proper oral care while sheltering in place at home. According to Hoss, the virtual toolbox is an excellent resource for entertaining children while also educating their parents about dental health.
Hoss said the toolbox is just another example of how The Super Dentists goes above and beyond to make dentistry exciting for children. The dental office, based in Escondido, California, makes going to the dentist fun for around 25% of children in San Diego County, according to Hoss.
Dentistry During the Pandemic
During his interview with Fox 5 News San Diego, Dr. Kami Hoss explained that The Super Dentists is still seeing patients for dental emergencies and has modified its hours during the pandemic. However, Hoss looks forward to opening the offices fully again soon.
At the moment, the dental practice has taken measures to protect its patients and their parents from COVID-19, such as allowing only one patient in the dental office at a time. Still, according to Hoss, dental offices like The Super Dentists are better prepared than other types of business are for re-opening given that these offices were used to practicing infection control procedures for decades before the pandemic occurred. Now, his dental office will simply make some adjustments to these practices to ensure an even greater level of infection control for all patients.
Oral Care at Home During the Pandemic
During the interview, Dr. Kami Hoss furthermore shared tips on how people of all ages can take care of their oral health during the pandemic. For instance, he emphasized the importance of brushing and flossing to protect oneself against the coronavirus. Using chlorhexidine mouth wash can also be helpful for individuals who lack access to oral care.
Furthermore, elderly individuals in nursing homes who were dentures should remove their dentures before they go to bed. This is important because those who wear dentures are more prone to develop denture plaque and gum inflammation. If the bacteria in their mouths are not removed, they can easily travel into the individuals’ lungs while they are breathing and cause respiratory issues. This can make them even more susceptible to COVID-19, which impacts the respiratory tract, according to Hoss.
