Credico USA was proud to sponsor Mercy Home for Boys and Girls 14th Annual Graduate’s Luncheon on June 7 at the Hilton Chicago, where 40 graduates were honored.
Mercy Home Board of Regents member Jim Williams, an anchor and reporter at WBBM-TV in Chicago, was the event’s emcee. “The Mercy Home for Boys and Girls— simply put— saves lives,” he said. “And by everyone being here this afternoon, you all are doing your part to help.”
Williams is a Chicago native and an original member of Mercy Home’s board of regents, serving since 1989. Rev. Scott Donahue, president and CEO of Mercy Home, has also served as a board member alongside Williams for 26 years. Rev. Scott encouraged the graduates to behold all of the love and support that filled the room.
The event’s keynote speaker was Lori Healey, CEO of the Metropolitan Pier and Exposition Authority. Healey congratulated the graduates on their achievements and spoke about the importance of luck and gratitude. Acknowledging the help and luck received on their paths to success, Healey said, is just as important as recalling the obstacles they’ve overcome along the way.
At the end of the luncheon, a graduate named Josefina gave an inspiring talk about how she overcame the obstacles of living in an abusive household and how Mercy Home helped her to dream and pursue opportunities. “We can be anything we want to be,” she told her fellow graduates. “Choose your path. Love what you do. And create your story.”
Jean Broaddus, chief client services officer for Credico North America, said, “It’s heart-warming to see these talented young people overcome childhood obstacles and on a path to success.”
Mercy Home for Boys and Girls is a nonprofit agency founded in 1887 that provides critical, life-saving care for more than 600 at-risk young women and men every year. Mercy Home operates on three Chicago campuses— a home for boys in Chicago’s West Loop, a home for girls in Chicago’s Beverly community and a home for AfterCare residents in the South Shore neighborhood.
