COVID Detection in 60 Seconds: Opteev’s Biosensor Breakthrough Published in “Sensors” Journal Signals Revolution in Pandemic Preparedness

Industry: Healthcare

Opteev's study in 'Sensors' unveils a 60-second SARS-CoV-2 detection biosensor, set to revolutionize multiplex diagnostics, environmental monitoring, & pandemic response.

Baltimore, MD (PRUnderground) October 3rd, 2023

Opteev Technologies, Inc. proudly announces the publication of its groundbreaking study in the esteemed peer-reviewed journal “Sensors.” The full study is available for access here. This pivotal moment underscores the future of pandemic preparedness and ultra-rapid pathogen detection. The study not only highlights the sensor’s analytical capability, able to detect SARS-CoV-2 in under 60 seconds with over 95% sensitivity and 100% specificity, but also reveals the broader potential of Opteev’s biosensor, a technology poised to reshape diagnostics, environmental monitoring, as well as a myriad of other applications.

At the heart of this achievement lies the functionalization of the biosensor with a stapled hACE-2 N-terminal alpha helix peptide. This critical advancement enables Opteev to embark on the development of a multiplex syndromic version of the sensor, poised to rival the large, lab-bound diagnostic machines that cost hundreds of thousands of dollars and take days for results. By simply adding additional functionalized sensors to the biochip and swapping the COVID-specific peptide for biogenic material specific to other virus and bacteria pathogens, the very near future promises a portable, battery-powered device, delivering the same comprehensive diagnostics in seconds, right in the palm of your hand for a minute fraction of the cost.

Moreover, this functionalization process offers a quantum leap in pandemic preparedness.  As soon as the genetic sequencing data for a novel or emerging virus becomes available, Opteev’s biosensor technology can be configured to detect it in almost real-time, presenting public health agencies with the ultimate tool for surveillance and containment of future outbreaks.

Opteev is actively seeking collaborations and partnerships to unleash the full potential of this biosensor. Beyond Point-of-Care diagnostics, the technology finds application in environmental monitoring. Air purifiers and HVAC systems equipped with this tiny biochip can detect and trigger immediate purification of harmful pathogens, ensuring safer indoor environments. Where today’s air purifiers detect dust, tomorrow’s could actively monitor and purify the air of harmful viruses and bacteria.

“Imagine a world where over 70% of medical decisions aren’t mere educated guesses. That’s the change our biosensor brings to healthcare,” stated Dr. Mesfin Meshesha, Opteev’s lead virologist. “No longer will comprehensive diagnostics be a waiting game or a matter of affordability. But its impact resonates far beyond the walls of a clinic. Whether it’s ensuring the air we breathe is safe or providing society a fortified way of defending against future pandemic threats, our biosensor technology ushers in a new era that will set the benchmark for decades to come.”

Conrad Bessemer, Opteev’s Chairman and Co-founder, underscored the game-changing potential of their innovation in diagnostics. “We’re not just introducing a groundbreaking approach to instantaneous, comprehensive diagnostic results,” he said, “we’re also extending an invitation for collaborations and partnerships to fully unlock the massive potential of our technology.”

As Opteev continues to advance diagnostic innovation, the company emphasizes a shared vision for the future of pathogen detection and pandemic preparedness.
