Cohasset Woman Begins 2nd Term as President of District’s Special Education Parent Advisory Council

Kelley McGhee, a resident of Cohasset, has begun a second term as the President of the Cohasset Special Education Parent Advisory Council (SEPAC).

Kelley McGhee, a resident of Cohasset, has begun a second term as the President of the Cohasset Special Education Parent Advisory Council (SEPAC). Under McGhee’s leadership, the organization has created dialogues, collaborations, and exchanges of ideas between district teachers, staff, and parents of special needs students. The goal of this teamwork is to maintain high quality special education curriculum and instruction across the Cohasset Public School System.
“I became aware of SEPAC when my family moved to Cohasset three and a half years ago,” says McGhee. “I have a daughter with special needs and learning disabilities, so I was grateful that such a useful and important organization existed for parents in the district. I eventually became a SEPAC board member and was re-elected President this year.”
McGhee is a 1988 graduate of Londonderry High School in Londonderry, NH. In 1993, she earned a B.A. degree in English and Secondary Education from La Salle University in Philadelphia. From 1993 to 2000, McGhee worked as teacher of remedial, college prep, and honors level English to 9th and 11th graders at Rancocas Valley Regional High School in Mt.Holly.
Along with her work with SEPAC, McGhee recently joined the newly launched Sylvan In-Home, which provides personalized one-on-one instruction for kindergarten through high school students. She’s a reading tutor of 3rd, 5th, and 8th grade students who live in Cohasset and Marshfield.

Being a witness to a student who achieves learning gains with the platform and gets excited about what she/he has accomplished is fantastic.”
McGhee believes that her experience as a teacher and as a parent make her a more effective tutor and SEPAC leader.
“I love teaching and I love helping students who have challenges to progress and excel,” says McGhee. “As a mother of a special needs child, I’m also an empathetic and passionate advocate for parents who are seeking the best education opportunities and outcomes for their children.”
