In the spirit of holiday giving, Cane Bay Partners VI, LLLP and its co-founders Kirk Chewning and David Johnson made cash donations to Lutheran Social Services of the Virgin Islands, Inc. to purchase furniture for families in need in time for the Christmas holiday.
Six families – two with young children in LSSVI’s Early Head Start program, two of the senior housing Flamboyant Gardens, and two of the adults with disabilities housing Genip Gardens – will receive new furnishings from Carlos Furniture. Carlos Furniture is throwing in their own donation by providing the families with sheet sets, rugs and free delivery of their new furniture in time for the Christmas holiday.
The cash donation was split between the company and both of its co-founders with their significant others, Leah Chewning and Jackie Goodyear.
“Last year Leah and I helped a Fredriksted Lutheran Social Services family brighten their Christmas with furniture, toys and food, and it felt really good,” Kirk Chewning said. “We wanted to expand the giving to reach more people during this holiday season. Our Cane Bay Partners family prides itself on the work we all do in the community and has continued to focus on education, crime prevention and providing help to those who are less privileged. We would like to continue to expand this initiative annually and further help more families next year.”
The donation was able to purchase several living room sets, dining room sets, beds, tables, dressers, sofas, clothes and other necessary household items. Several other friends of Cane Bay Partners also donated educational toys to augment the gifts for the families. In order to reach more families, 35 gift cards from Cost-U-Less were donated and will be distributed to additional families and individuals in LSS programs who are determined to be most in need, according to LSSVI Chief Operating Officer/ HR Director Michelle Joseph.
“Christmas is about giving, and these gifts are much needed. The residents will be so grateful,” Joseph said. “We would like to thank Cane Bay Partners, as well as the Johnsons, the Chewnings, and Carlos Furniture, for all of their generosity.”
