New York, NY (PRUnderground) December 8th, 2020
Barbara Hopkinson, Founder and CEO of A Butterfly’s Journey, was recently selected as Empowered Woman of the Year by the International Association of Top Professionals (IAOTP). Her exemplary role as a female business professional in a male-dominated industry displays her capability, proficiency, and influence.
Inclusion within the International Association of Top Professionals is an honor in itself, as only a few women are chosen for this distinction based on their years of experience, professional accomplishments, academic achievements, leadership abilities, and contributions to their communities. With innovation and compassion, these women empower others to reach their goals, while creating change for future generations.
The President of IAOTP, Stephanie Cirami, stated, “Choosing Barbara for this award was an easy decision for our panel to make. She is compassionate, empathetic, and has first-hand experience about resilience after loss. Her continuous support and understanding is what makes her such an empowering force within her field. We are thrilled to be honoring her as an Empowered Woman of the Year, and we are looking forward to celebrating her accomplishments at the Annual Awards Gala.”
With over three decades of experience as an accomplished international business executive in the corporate technology industry, Barbara decided to dramatically change her career path. Having experienced the death of three of her children and her husband, Barbara realized she wanted to use her time and talents to help others find hope, healing, and resilience after loss.
In 2013, Barbara made the decision to leave the corporate world and founded A Butterfly’s Journey™ (ABJ), a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. ABJ’s mission is to help individuals and families struggling with grief to find their hope and resilience as well as to encourage open expression around grief, loss and love. The organization continues to offer hope and support to thousands of grieving individuals and families.
Barbara hosts international emotion-evoking photo shoots, is a best-selling author, popular speaker and workshop presenter. She has achieved certification as Advanced Grief Recovery Method (GRM) Specialist by the Grief Recovery Institute. GRM is the only evidence-based methodology for grief in the world.
Under Barbara’s direction, A Butterfly’s Journey has created or partnered with several innovative programs that are highly effective in helping to heal grief. The non-profit website has a free online Resource Center; offers group, individual and organizational support programs, as well as on-site photo-shoots for participants to express their deepest feelings.
In 2003, Barbara founded and remains Chapter Leader of The Compassionate Friends, of Greater Newburyport, MA, which provides local support for families that have lost a child, grandchild or sibling. She is a certified Advanced Grief Recovery Specialist, and an author/co-author of five books related to healing grief. Her first photo book, “Faces of Resilience,” the first in a series, was released in 2019.
Barbara studied Computer Science at Fairleigh Dickinson University, and resides north of Boston, near her son, two stepsons, stepdaughter, and their families. Her favorite role is “Nana” to her four grandchildren.
Throughout her career, Barbara has received awards, accolades and has been recognized worldwide for her outstanding leadership and commitment to help others heal. She is being considered for an exclusive interview on T.I.P. Radio for 2021. Last year, she was featured in TIP (Top Industry Professionals) Magazine and was selected as Top Executive of the Year in Resilience After Loss by the International Association of Top Professionals (IAOTP). She will be honored at IAOTP’s Annual Awards Gala, being held at the Plaza Hotel in New York City, for her distinction as an Empowered Woman of the Year.
Looking back, Barbara attributes her success to her resilience, perseverance and passion for helping others heal. For the future, she hopes to continue to help those in the USA, and as well as internationally, find their resilience in any way that she can.
