Balance Chicago Physical Therapy is supporting patients with inner ear and brain balance disorders by investing in a corporate sponsorship with the Vestibular Disorders Association (VeDA).

The vestibular system includes the parts of the inner ear and brain that process the sensory information involved with controlling balance and eye movements. If disease or injury damages these processing areas, vestibular disorders can result.

According to the National Institutes of Health (NIH), 40% of the US population age 40 or older will experience a balance disorder in their lifetime. Dizziness is the 3rd most common major medical symptom reported, yet the majority of cases remain unexplained.

VeDA helps vestibular patients by educating them about their condition, providing referrals to vestibular healthcare specialists, and connecting them with a support network. VeDA could not accomplish this mission without corporate partners like Balance Chicago who are committed to social responsibility and want to make a difference.

Emily had her first vestibular attack on Halloween while at work. The next day she was forced to crawl around her house due to her dizziness and imbalance. With a job and two young boys, Emily had to return to work and caring for her family. Emily says, “My boys were my guiding light. They needed my love, so I needed to show up for them.” Emily’s condition affects he entire family, including her husband, who has been very supportive. Fortunately, Emily has found a holistic treatment plan that has helped her get back to balance.

Balance Chicago’s support allows VeDA to help patients like Emily get on the road to recovery. “Vestibular therapy is our passion. We love VeDA not only for the support they provide us, but also for the support they put back into the community,” Michele Kehrer, Owner/CEO.
